10am – Paul Menzies on Middlesbrough


Historian Paul Menzies considers some aspects of the history of Middlesbrough in his weekly blog posts during Local History Month. We start with The Tees-side Blondin!

10am – Frank Wild: The Antarctic explorer from Skelton


In three videos to be shown during Local History Month, and in advance of exhibition at the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum of artefacts associated with his life and travels, we will learn about the Antarctic explorer Frank Wild, who was born in Skelton and who took part in no less than four expeditions to the Antarctic between 1901 and 1922.

Steve Harland explores the history of the Middlesbrough punk and post-punk venue The Rock Garden in a virtual blog.

2pm – Head Wrightson: a virtual tour


Take a virtual tour of what was the site of Head Wrightson, in the company of Albert Roxborough. Using photographs and other material from the Heritage Lottery-funded Head Wrightson photo archive project, we can see what life was like at the company, which was one of the industrial giants of Teesside engineering
