9am to 2:30pm – Day school: Care and Conflict – Cleveland and Teesside in the twentieth century

A chance to spend a day with some renowned local historians hearing about aspects of life in Cleveland and Teesside during the twentieth century. There will be four online talks and you can attend the whole day or dip into individual talks.

The programme includes:

  • Middlesbrough in World War 1 (Paul Menzies)
  • Man at the Back – Lord Tom Sawyer (Christopher Massey)
  • No Place for Terrorists – Teesside and Women’s Suffrage (Martin F Peagam)
  • Care Between Conflict: Stockton in Hard Times (John Little)

11am – Memories of Middlesbrough in the 1970s and 1980s

A look back at life in Middlesbrough in the seventies and eighties with historian Dr Tosh Warwick, author of the new book Memories of Middlesbrough in the 1970s and 1980s. Tosh tells some of the stories behind the images in the book and shares memories shared as part of the book project

2pm – The Tees Transporter Bridge: Past, Present and Future CANCELLED

Ahead of the publication of a new book on Teesside’s famous landmark, Dr Tosh Warwick tells the story of the Tees Transporter Bridge by exploring notable moments from the Bridge’s past, considers what the Grade II* Listed structure means to Teessiders today and considers what role the Bridge might play in future developments of the area.
