Local History Month 2021 - Week One

May means Local History Month - Stockton and Middlesbrough have joined together for a month of events that will allow you to explore more about the area's past, the people and the places that have been the making of Teesside.
This year for safety it is largely virtual - but not all you are invited to a COVID-Friendly walk/talk (with refreshments at Coulby Newham's Newham Grange Leisure Farm. Please find below the first week of events - we will bring you all the links so you can join in from your own home. Also go to https://lovemiddlesbrough.com/lhm21/ for full coverage and details.

A sailor’s trod, a daily commute, the path to footballing glory or disappointment, a wildlife corridor, the way to sand and sea and shellfish, an escape from the terraces. The Black Path is so many things to so many people and occupies a unique place in the area’s psyche. Join Mike O’Reilly and Chris Corbett as they explore the social and industrial heritage of this extraordinary route, taking a look at the public art along its length and celebrating its stories and communities as they walk from the Teesside Archives to Redcar.

(Filmed and edited by Middlesbrough Environment City, additional historic material provided by Teesside Archives)
