Loan deal agreed

I thought this season there might have been more of a chance in that some supporters get behind youngsters except if they are strikers. There is a nervousness about homegrown forwards from fans and many are written off at 17 or 18, almost before they have stepped on the pitch. So, without any supporters it might have been an opportunity but there was no one ready it seems.
Could it be the most difficult position to step up straight out of the U23s/youth team? Is it easier to work your way up and bridge the gap in lower leagues and gain your technique and confidence. Maybe we give people slightly more time in other positions or they can be flexible like Tav etc and play in different parts of the pitch to gradually establish themselves.

I think you are not too far away from the truth these days there Rob. The model for developing young strikers at most big clubs now seems to be to loan them out to lower league clubs for a while to see if they cut the mustard for a few seasons before they even have a sniff of the first team.

I do wonder if clubs and fans see a 1 year loan of a Chelsea wonderkid to be less of a risk than a 19 yr old who has been through the academy?

Christian Atsu, not even on the bench for Newcastle, tonight? 🤔

It was reported as agreed last week Rob.

This is just another window where we are short of bodies, quality and creativity, and end up not addressing the glaring issues.

I'm not saying it's easy, and most other clubs of our stature are in the same boat, but NW, the club or local media shouldn't announce that a deal has been agreed if it hasn't.
I thought it was reported as agreed pending the managers sign off?

Its an annoying trend. Nmecha for example was a complete waste of a loan.

I assume it is 100% down to ability.

If they are good enough they'll play. We had no issues blooding Spence, Fry, Tav, Coulson etc and we must have played more home grown keepers than nearly any one else! Jones, Turnbull, Steele, Pears. If we are giving keepers a go, there's no chance we wouldn't be giving strikers a go if they demonstrated enough ability.

I think it is also that strikers attract the most attention of scouts, and the best strikers at youth level tend to get hoovered up by bigger clubs. The fact that we’ve had such a successful academy over the years and only produced Danny Graham of any real note suggests this.

Wasn't he signed in late in to his youth career too, so not really a full academy product?

I don't think anyone has written any of our youth strikers off? Maybe I missed that? In fact, I'd be more than happy for us to give the likes of Walker and Burrell a game, like we have done with Wood, Hackney, Folarin etc.
Warnock wants the young lads to get game time and for us to have readymade fit for purpose players at our disposal for a run at the playoffs. We just need several miracles to take place for that to happen.. that’s all.

In the Gazette article it says that Dijksteel is injured.

On sunday NW said he was a bit unwell but was nothing serious.

So which is it?

He was also in the U23's team yesterday according to FlashScore, but no mention in the MFC match report.

How many times has it been said
We have a long list of players for every position , if we lose out on one , we move to the next one .
The problem is , no money , so unless we sell a player , we can't buy a / some players .
Neil said he would swap if he had to , will he go down that route ?

Catch 22 , everyone wants loans , but clubs won't release players until they get a better player in .
The only good out of this window is it may put an end to agents ruining the game with greed .
Les deals , less agents milking it .

As above no way can we class Danny Graham as an academy product as he was signed from non league.

the last true first team striker to make the step up was Andy Campbel.. who is now a manager in his own right now so this shows just how long ago that was.

our striker production has been nothing short of abysmal to be frank with ZERO products to show

this is in part mainly as we convert any one with any attacking edge into a winger as this is an easier pathway into the first team- Downing Johnson reach all started as a forward at youth level.
