Live Aid

And people say this country is racist. If that was the case Live Aid would not have been the massive success that it was.

I've read this now a few times and am still struggling to understand the connection between Live Aid and racism! On a day when a 12 year old sends a disgusting racist tweet to a man trying his best to do his job, I reckon this country is pretty damn racist... Live Aid or not!

It's perfectly possible to give money to help people, while at the same time thinking you're superior to them because of their race. A lot of British colonialisation in Africa was based on the belief that white people had a duty to "civilise" Africa (the white man's burden). It's called paternalism and it's a type of racism that's fairly widespread.
