Litter - Petition For Printing of Number Plates on Drive Thru Packages

DCI - the McDonalds bags are absolutely everywhere - printing the number plate on the bags might just make some people stop and think. Then again the if the fines payable for dumping a bag were paid into a fund it would employ people to find and clear up. They tend to be thrown in much the same places again and again and again. Take a look in one of these hotspots to see the size of the problem. If you were stick a camera there you would see the drivers pulling over, eating and then winding down their windows.
I don't doubt that McDonalds bags are everywhere but who's going to go around and pick up the bags and process the fines?

Do you think the print will still be legible after its been laying in a puddle?

What about all the rubbish generated by takeaways, don't bother with them?

McDonalds are just one part of a very large problem that needs to be addressed.

It's a good idea - how practical it is, I'm not sure.
They do need to do something - especially McDonalds which seems to be the worst.

I've also noticed fly tipping in the West Yorks area has got a lot worse. I feel sorry for Farmers around here, suddenly finding Sofas, tyres, Engine bits etc dumped in their fields. Again, not sure what we can do to stop this.

McDonalds are the worst because there's more of them. KFC, Greggs, Costa,, Starbucks etc all have drive thrus.

I wonder what the cost would be of installing specialist printers/software in every McDonalds drive thru and training the staff how to use?

Hand scanners are about £20 aren't they?
Wouldn't it be a great contribution from them to helping keep Britain tidy.

Just confiscate and crush the car, dropping it carelessly on their garden when done. They’ll soon learn to respect themselves, others and the environment they live in.

to be honest, I’d crush the car with them still in it just to be sure.

There is surely even less chance of quickly bringing in a fast food tax. I don't think they would be grassing up anyone because the customer should not be throwing the packaging away.
Its time for "producer pays" - not a tax on the purchaser, but a regressive tax on Macdonalds as the supplier to all its franchises - pushing responsibility down the supply chain to strip the use of raw materials [especially packaging]. For every tonne of packaging used at point of sale by the company [and KFC + + + ] a progressive tax needs to be implemented, in addition to increased taxation for disposal in the form of increased business rates on the company. It will be amazing to see the rapid transformation - you only get action and results when you threaten to take away a portion of their profits.

I remember when I was younger, public service announcements and adverts denouncing littering, crossing the road etc etc.

There is nothing like this now. There is no education, there is no standard set by government.

You combine that with less bins, less collections and more takeaway rubbish and you get what we have.

there is an issue at the barrage with full bins being attacked by crows and the like.

personally I have had arguments over littering because it really boils my ****. I have had stand up disputes with people on Roseberry Topping, the moors and various hills in the lakes. Dog walkers where I live. It’s an abhorrent practice and we need litter wardens.

Yes (y)
In Germany there are recycling centres who pay - by-the-tonne - for aluminium drinks cans, and in some places youngsters are waiting for you to finish your can [especially if youre sat outside a street cafe] - then they take them and bag them up.

Perhaps if we implemented that sort of scheme here - where ordinary people could take a minimum of say 100 cans to a recycling centre and receive a penny a can - in receipt for a voucher into a legit bank account - hedgerows, railway banks, ......would become clear of crap in no time!
All it takes is a little incentive.

Every takeout container should be bio degradable but turbo charged. Get colleges and unis involved with grants to design containers that degrade into the ground within say a week. With the sole aim of having these available within 18 months for every business.

Nothing plastic at all should come from takeouts after said containers are lainched, ban it immediately, never mind phasing it out, just ban it outright. Any business caught using plastic takeout containers is fined £10,000 on the spot no ifs or buts.

Scruffy gits at the bottom of Roseberry Topping are some of the worst, not only can they not park a vehicle to save their lives, where they have dumped their car after they have left they've dumped their rubbish too.
You are dead right about Newton under Roseberry, Randy. It’s where I live (despite my username) and I see it on a daily basis. Anyway, the “scruffy gits” won’t be able to park on the road after April 26th as there will be double yellow lines both sides of the road from Newton to the NYorks border in Ayton. Plus resident only parking in Newton.

Superb news for you and the rest of the residents. Hopefully it's strictly enforced and the public will soon get the idea.

I use the road at least once a week and it's impassable when the weather is hot.

That's a good point Kosovo about the bin! - and i've seen rubbish fly out of bins when it's windy....
If it's on drive thrus, you take your rubbish home and put it in your wheelie bin. Don't ever recall my wheelie bin blowing over and the contents going down the street. Scruffy, lazy, disrespectful people need to be held to account. Rubbish on A66 certainly hasn't come out of a residential wheelie bin, any ideas that may make idiots think twice are worth considering

Bigger bins, or bins that actually get emptied every hour would help, or at a frequency so that the bin is never more than half full.
Nearly every time I go to a fast-food joint the bins are rammed and rubbish is just spewing out. Also mandatory CCTV covering every inch of the car parks, and 100% checks for littering, with mandatory 100% prosecution for observed littering on CCTV.

As for areas not in car parks, just make it a fine of a month's wages for any littering. Other countries manage, as they're tough on the culprits, we're too soft and we have a high percentage of bell ends, because of it.

I’ve signed it in the hope it at least stimulates some debate which can only be a good thing. I’m dismayed at the amount of rubbish everywhere at the moment. Even country lanes or the moors have it. I actually think that for some people they don’t even realise what they are doing . It’s an automated response to just throw it. Goes back to teaching at school, reinforcement on tv etc and ultimately fines needed.

The way to go might be to start charging the fast food companies for the clean up costs. That'd hopefully give them an incentive to help sort the situation out.
Why should they have to pay to sort it out. They don't throw rubbish about.
As for the number plate on the carton they will just tear that bit off and dump the rest out of badness.

If they took serious measures for offenders it might help but how many come to court.
