Line of Duty (Possible spoilers inside, BEWARE!)

Holy crap what an episode, best yet in my opinion.

Was Karim Ali working for the OCG?
We`ve been told all along he was just an innocent civilian but last night threw that all up in the air after what Lakewell says to Vella

Pilkington with that stare at Davidson.........jeez the absolute no **** given by that lad now

All the AC12 pieces are starting to be removed from the board, Kate getting told to wind it in, Steve about to be set up for drug abuse, Ted given his orders.
Something has got to turn the tide next episode but it`s not impossible for it to end with the OCG thinking they have won only for some undercover top secret set up to return in S7 just like they did with the X-Files

Odd also that the bullets from the automatic weapons used by the ambushers couldn't penetrate the sides of the van. Also how lucky/unlucky that they had a sniper exactly where the van overturned.

It's just telly, if you start analysing too closely the illusion is shattered. Enjoy the ride this is building nicely.
Thought the same about the sniper
But on the bullets not penetrating the van. Had a re-watch when I got home from work to check what I thought I saw last night. Just before the bullets hit the van the person shown shooting was using a Sterling Sub Machine gun. I have fired one on the range once . But have been told by people with more expertise they don't pack much of a punch.
That is my theory. ;)

H and the OCG are desperate to shut AC-12 down, that is for sure.

They got Dot into AC-9 then seconded to AC-12, which Hastings made the mistake of requesting this temporary move be made permanent when Cottan got the commendation. They managed to compromise Maneet for a while, but then lost her and did away with her. They got Gill Biggeloe to insert herself, then tried to do away with her. They have made several attempts to physically remove Steve - hand in a vice/fingers removed by bolt cutter, thrown down a stairwell, shot at, - then they have tried to remove Hastings several times, including fitting him up. They got AC-9 to investigate Hastings and it was an AC-9 officer that tried to knife Biggeloe in the toilets. Now they want to merge AC-9, AC-12 and AC-3 and disband 90% of it's officers.

AC-12 are good guys
AC-9 are compromised
AC-3 was the unit Kate went to when suspicious of Dot (and possibly Hastings) because it was headed by a woman and therefore not a Mason, so they are probably good guys.

The notion Kate might be corrupt doesn’t tally with her fatal chase of Dot.

Osborne is H. It’s no coincidence there have been some corrupt armed firearm officers here and there.

Aren't most prisoner transfer vehicles bullet proof aswell?
Great scene that shootout.

Looking forward to seeing Pilkington get taken down. Obvious now he's Gail's killer with the way he drew the gun on Davison.

**** they ramped the tensions up on that episode. Great stuff.

Loved it, but thought Buckells’ interview was some of the worst acting I’ve seen in a long time.

Lakewell gave Arnott some info, the way Steve nodded when he said that he didn’t talk, suggests he did, or at least gave him something.

I‘ve just read that Carmichael is back in the next episode, the young fast tracked detective who investigated Hastings in the last series.

I initially thought the picture was of Kate, but that wouldn’t make sense. I have no idea who Davidson’s relative is though.

Well my thoughts for what they are worth

Steve said that the police didn't routinely cross-check police DNA against the whole database at the time when Davidson joined. So the mystery DNA is possibly from someone who had already offended and was on the system before Davidson joined the police. How long ago would that be - twenty years? So it's someone old enough to have committed criminal acts at least twenty years ago. A character from Series 3 perhaps?

Not Ryan. Or Jake, who I briefly suspected might be Jo's son.

The 'Mother of God' reaction is one that I'm struggling to fit into the story especially with the theory that its Tommy Hunter that is the relative. If it was Tommy Hunter wouldn't the reaction be more of a 'Ah, so what?' Its not as if Jo has inherited the OCG and is leading the criminal underworld like some Mafia boss so why would it be that important if for example Tommy was her father?

The 'Mother of God' reaction I can make my peace with more if its John Corbett as the relative as we are down the rabbit hole of Hastings potentially being part of that family too. If Jo were John's sister Hastings now has all kinds of extra Christmas presents / 50k back handers that he has to find.

I'm glad Carmichael is back👏 . I thought she was class in her ice queen roll. I am wondering if she could be the longterm replacement for Ted if he's pensioned off?

I still genuinely think it's winding down to a series end. AC12 shutdown / Ted retired / Steve back to anti terrorism and Kates already left.

They appear to be onto Ryan and ticking off all the long standing threads going back to season 1. I really hope I'm wrong but I think it's going to the end of line of duty. I just don't see what's left if they bring down the OCG?

I still wouldn't rule out one absolute massive twist that Kate / Steve or Hastings are the final H.

I would agree. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would completely rule Kate out!

I think BBC will push for one final series. It's one of their mist popular shows which gets lots of people young, middle aged and old talking about it.

Final series could focus purely on the hunt for the illusive 4th member (if their is one).

We know pretty much nothing about Steve or Kates back grounds.

I binged all 5 seasons again over the 3 weeks before S6 started and plenty of moments from both were you think 'why did they do that?'.

I read an interesting artical were they said the writer is playing the long game from season 1 where he's always known who's who. It said once it all comes to an end you can look back and almost see the main H and think 'it's obvious now'. He's been setting up the reveal for years and not just winging it.

The ending of season 1 actually had Kate interviewing the very young Ryan and she says 'I had a very similar up bringing as you'. Interesting😉

Mercurio has said that series 6 brings a lot of things to a head and answers, in the same way series 3 did.

He does have an idea for a series 7 (maybe even a series 8), but it hasn't been commissioned yet so he hasn't got into any detailed writing of it. That is just the way he works. It really only comes together with the detailed writing and story boarding, which might be why it could be 2 more.

Martin Compston has said it would be great if there was a seventh series and some way of working normally (ie post covid) with Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure, Jed Mercurio and the whole crew, because they have become a family. Mercurio, Dunbar, McClure and Compston are all big curry fans so every monday? night when filming would be curry night and those four haven't missed one.

Of course Mercurio and Compston might just be laying more false trails. I get the feeling they love doing that.

I can't see how the BBC wouldn't want another series, but maybe they and Mercurio don't want to reveal that as it may spoil the anticipation for the final episode of this series. I can see Netflix or Amazon stepping in with big bucks anyway.

I find it odd that Ryan has tried to hide in the background whenever Steve has been in the same room as him, but he has no issue with being on the same team as Kate.

The OCG know who Kate is and Ryan knows he was interviewed by her in the past, so it's odd he's trying to hide from one of them but not the other? Unless I'm missing something which is likely

Well, he was the one trying to cut Steve's fingers off with a bolt cutter, so he might think staying out of his way is a tad more prudent.

Yeah i get why he hides from Steve.

Just don't get why him or the OCG aren't bothered about him working with Kate on the same team.

RE: The Van

is it possible that only the sniper had the ammunition to actually cause the killer damage? Possibly to make sure Chloe doesn’t get harmed (“it could have come from within AC12”). Notice how chloe couldn’t reach the van door handle so sent up the police woman who was killed.

Chloe was wearing a red jacket when all the others were wearing black, making her stand out so that she wouldn’t be shot.
