Light at the end of the tunnel?

After watching the “other” news at the weekend I got the real sense that we are getting a step closer to getting back to a semblance of normal.

With other European countries opening back up, restaurants and bars open, football returning in Spain. Followed by the positive steps the gvt announced to getting shops and schools open I got a real sense for the first time that this current situation won’t last forever and that made me optimistic about the future.

Although cautiously optimistic I got a bit of a boost thinking about the coming months. I’ve actually enjoyed elements of the lockdown, the reset, the opportunity to do all those things I have put off using the excuse that the demands of normal life have prevented me from doing them. (I realise the lockdown is living hell for many and mental health has been badly damaged) - getting out of lockdown probably can’t come soon enough for them.

Covid has takenand will continue to take away our normal way of life, taking our loved ones, friends and family away from us which we will never forget.

Hopefully the situation improves and we don’t have a second spike. Maybe towards the back end of this year we are getting back towards normal (appreciate things will never ever be quite the same again).

appreciate there is still a long way to go but
here’s to a brighter future when we are back on this board squabbling about the performance of our beloved team.

It amazes me that very few people seem to be mentioning it.
Yes it doesn’t immediately spring to my mind as I live in London and they live up north so I don’t get to see them that much anyway - but yes those who are close to family and see them regularly must be really suffering.

The policy is now being made by immune people who are "I'm alright Jacks". At least one has seen and spoken to his parents as well.

I don't want to be a doom monger but we need to look at the bigger picture. New Zealand has managed to eradicate the virus because of a speedy lockdown and effective tracking and tracing but it is an isolated island..... for now. Europe has flattened the curve by its varied lockdown proceedures.
But the virus is still there Brazil Russia India are all getting thousands of cases each day. Trump is in election mode and opening up USA in a sh1t or bust effort to get back into power. He has stopped Brazilians entering the country.
The Earth has no borders we are safer now than at the pandemics height but once we open up we also let the virus back in and the percentage of people who have immunity are very small.
When???? we get a vaccine. and when most of us have been inoculated then we can start breathing a little easier.
Looking forward to that day
Be patient

That's the benefit of living on an isolated island - it really was possible to do a great job.

As I said on another thread. There is no economic benefit to seeing family so it will not be a priority.

Although, they have mentioned it. The 50 page document mentioned social bubbles and it was watching what countries that are a couple of weeks ahead of us have done so we might get some news in the net review.

I don’t do politics, ever, but I feel I gotta start looking out now.
Are we not an isolated Island? Shouldn’t we have had the same sort of success? Says a lot for the people in power.

We locked down too late even though we saw it happening and heading our way. And some part of me feels we are opening far too early.

And we are now putting quarantine rules in place when a number of other countries look to carefully open borders.
We really are a little contrary

We are not an isolated island or a little country. Heathrow is the 2nd biggest airport in the world in terms of flights. Gatwick the twelfth. We aren't in the slightest way comparable with New Zealand and are very vulnerable. Germany are the outlier amongst European nations and it is them we should be trying to learn from.

An isolated island with airports - got me there.
That is really tricky to sort out.
Oh, hang on a min...….

it would have been nice for the journalists last night to ask about seeing family rather than the 4/5 of them all asking the same question about cummings worded slightly different from the last question about cummings. they were never going to get a straight answer or different answer following the statement in the afternoon

And so have far less population density.
I don't think being an island makes a great deal of difference. People aren't driving from China to the Germany or even from Italy to Germany.
If you wish to compare responses look at countries similar to ours. South Korea, Japan and Germany.
