Lewis is a brilliant driver and a really nice guy. The fact that he uses his status to highlight important issues is very commendable, not many other sports stars do.

I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with him when he was at Mclaren and he was a really good laugh. He doesn’t conform to the British racing driver stereotype and I think that irks a few people, but he’s having an incredible career and he’ll break more records yet.

I think there was quite a bit of disbelief when he decided to leave McLaren for Mercedes but he can't be described as opportunistic because Merc weren't pulling up any trees at the time and didn't look capable in the future.
Yes but everyone knew they would shine in the hybrid era.

The fact is they have engineered the racing element out of the sport.

As cars simply can’t race anymore so they’ve created a false narrative usive gimmicks like tyre compounds and drs

but sadly the reality is the modern cars are designed in such a way that they can’t physically race alongside each other in
Close distances. That is crazy in motor sport.

Let’s hope they fix it in 2022

yet he's still by far and away the best driver at the moment and has been for the best part of a decade.
No argument there my issue is when he’s called the greatest ever and that’s not the case as sadly many didn’t live long enough to win that many.

Neither - I consider him an excellent driver, his personality and personal life is nothing to do with me and he is no worse than many other sportsman in terms of tax affairs. I certainly elevate him above the politicians who lecture us on tax avoidance and what we should pay, whilst filling their boots (and ensuring their mates get plenty of financially rewarding contracts etc) from the public purse.

Definitely in the "neither" camp. As a person he's not perfect (who is) but he's not a nob either. Certainly far worse role models out there and although I'm not particularly interested in F1 these days (give me Senna, Prost, Mansell, Piquet and co any day) I still like to see him win.

Phenomenal driver only tarred slightly that it's effectively just a two car race now. Of course same can be said of Schumacher for some of his career and it's not as if Hamilton has never had any proper competition in the past.

definitely Barbados!

"In August 2019, HMRC took action against a £450m tax avoidance scheme. Its investors included David Beckham and Gary Lineker."

https://www.taxation.co.uk/articles/tax-avoidance-in-football

Vaughn, that article relates to Gary Lineker, David Beckham and others being investigated (not found guilty) of tax breach (not necessarily avoidance) relating to investment in the movie industry.....nothing to do with a property in Barbados or anywhere else. So, come back with evidence of his foreign house tax avoidance scheme.

As a driver he will break all F1 records and does anyone honestly think that any team he was driving for wouldn’t perform better with him in their seat ?

Like Tiger Woods he has become a black icon in a predominately white sport, but unlike Woods he has used his position to highlight matters of racial discrimination and advocate for black rights, it takes a great sportsman to not be afraid to stand up for what they believe in, and Hamilton, like Ali and others has done that.

To achieve what he has is phenomenal and to suggest that he’s lucky is underplaying the immense talent, drive and hard work that he has had to put in, fortune plays a part in getting a break but ability only allows you to take advantage of it.

Indeed Tiger Woods' personal life became a car crash (no pun intended) for a decade or so. All down to personal indiscipline.

I cannot recall any hint of personal scandal or misdemeanours as far as Lewis is concerned.
He's a six time world champion yet still only considered worthy of an MBE which in comparison to other 'sports stars' is scandalous.

I absolutely loathe him. He is a poisonous nasty little man.

I have no doubt he is a good driver but there isn't a trade off between being good at your job and being a good person.

unfortunately the romance has gone from the sport-- ok some might call this crashes, deaths etc-- Senna era was for me the dividing line from the sport being fun, artistic and challenging into what we have today and that is pure commercialism and outright boring racing-- Lewis has [unfortunately] become the F1 circus hero or cheerleader and why shouldn't he? After all they've literally given him the podium to do whatever.

The man is an absolutely incredible driver in all conditions. Watch how good he is in the wet for example. He's still fit and focused and can easily achieve 8 World Titles (and could realistically push for 10 I think).

He has my admiration for being a World Class Sportsman and someone who will go down as the greatest in F1 history.
