.

Local Tory MP's celebrating pretty standard, and to be expected, upgrades to roads as major levelling up wins. Shameful. Like an abuser saying you should be grateful for the slightly larger portion of food they have given you today.

Well......people in the North East voted for this spiteful cabal .....they own it.

And, as usual, the good people suffer.

But hey, Bozo "got BrEXit dun".
Spot on. Some of those constituents will seriously regret ever listening to that fat bumbling buffoon.

Tories clearly don’t think they’ll win those seats again though, they’re just trying to make the incoming government’s job as tough as possible in areas that are already deprived of funding.

I've no issue with the regional split as such because there are deprived areas all over the country. However, the fact that there's a lot more Tory controlled areas benefitting should not go unheard by the electorate.
It's just Tories being Tories sadly and the pretence of them governing for the benefit of anyone but themselves needs exposing to the majority of the electorate if we are to not suffer more of their murderous leadership.
It strikes me as they are trying to buy votes in these seats to dilute what should be a huge swing to Labour and the Lib Dems depending on the constituency.

Billingham needs levelling, not levelling up!

Just kidding! I was actually going to bring up the same Billingham / Yarm comment.

There is no levelling up criteria being applied here to determine where the money goes from what I can see.

Gove specifically mentioned Houchen on R4 this morning. Easy to see how they decide.

Must admit my understanding of levelling up was if we look at statistics of say smokers in Surrey and Blackpool there's something like a 20% difference (can't remember the numbers) which impacts life expectancy

If you looked at life education of say Middlesbrough to Cambridge and look at future earnings again it was meant to be about balancing equality

Or at least the white paper it is based on was. It looks more like cash randomly thrown at projects

But maybe I've misunderstood 🤷‍♂️
They are definitely not chosen at random. Money has gone into tory held marginals and into cabinet held seats. It is pork barrel politics at its finest.

Gove on Breakfast news said the decisions on which bids were successful were made on 'strict criteria'. He did not say what those criteria were. You can probably guess at some of them.

It was also about spending money on infrastructure all over the north to create an economic “powerhouse” similar to London.

Can’t say I’ve seen an improvement in any rail services (yes this is sarcasm), though at least they’ve been regionally consistent with the absolute ***show they’ve managed on that front.

Was just about to write this, but agreed with Nero ... It seems to be money mostly given to areas / projects where they feel they can shore up / maintain tory votes, nothing much more.

It is, and so already stretched departments have to use valuable resource and money submitting bids, only to find they've lost because of what colour rosette their MP wears.
Yep.

Was on TV this morning one local authority spent £560,000 on a bid to satisfy the demands of the government.

Bid was unsuccessful, so not only do they get no new money, they have half a million less than they started with.

On the contrary there plenty of criteria

Though maybe not the one we expect
