Let them have their Super League.

Watching the way Man City are taking Southampton to the cleaners and thinking of how Chelsea beat us without breaking into a sweat, and when you think of the gulf between the top 3 or 4 clubs...6 at a stretch...and the rest, you wonder what the point is. The same clubs win the cups 90% of the time. They all have massive financial resources, multiple times what the rest do, and a lot of them are funded by dodgy regimes or companies. Screw them, the game is ruined. Let them break away and have their European or World Super League for the glory fans from every corner of the globe. Leave the traditional competitions to the real clubs owned by real chairmen and fans.

Yes, I'm bitter... 🤣

The way in which all monetary rewards are distributed needs to change. The TV revenues need to be split across the whole division 1/20th each. Playing on a Sunday is more the norm than Saturday so those playing do not need "compensating" especially those playing in Europe. The number of players that are loaned out by the top teams needs to be limited, they are simply banking the talent and then selling players to other sides at a profit. It's not good for the other teams to end up bankrolling the top teams and it isn't good for the players. The gate receipts need to be split 50:50 to the two teams playing a particular match. Too many of these little changes are weighting the profitability in favour of the top teams.

Alternatively, let them fkk off and player in a European Super League. And good luck to them.

Re FOSUN

Fosun chief Guo Guangchang is a multi-billionaire. He ranks among China’s richest. Yet that did not prevent him disappearing for several days in December 2015, detained by Chinese authorities.

He reappeared to say he had been “assisting in investigations carried out by the mainland judicial authorities” but declined to say more about what happened.

Fosun insisted the investigation did not relate to the company and Guo faced no charges. But a Shanghai business figure told the Financial Times it sent a signal: “No one is off limits.”

There needs to be something done as the game has become kinda boring now its just the same clubs winning the Premier league, same teams winning the FA Cup and League Cup. The small sides have no chance unless they sell their soul to some far east state

The solution would be to have stricter rules on ownership applied. Newcastle can join the super league for all I care.

If Liverpool beat Forest that will be the top three in the FA cup semis. Two of the same three in the League Cup final. The same three in CL quarters. The gulf is absolutely massive, even if Klopp and the likes moan about fixture pile ups, they win everything playing their 3rd and 4th choices in the early rounds. It’s boring.

I agree with the majority of that other than the gate receipts.

Has it ever been any different? I'm not sure how many professional clubs there are but there are not many who have won a competition and even less to have won a top league title. From my immediate thoughts and without searching:

Man United
Liverpool
Arsenal
Aston Villa
Chelsea
Man City
Sunderland
Newcastle
Wolves
West Brom
Spurs
Blackburn
Leicester
Nottingham Forest
Derby
Preston
Burnley
Huddersfield

There's probably a few more to add to that list. I reckon during the title winning seasons each of those sides were pretty dominant.

I suppose we are all supporting Palace in the cup.

Oi. What about Middlesbrough 😁

Problem for a lot of the mid to lower PL teams as well is that staying in the Premier League is the only important thing. So they field weakened teams in the early rounds of the cups and just don’t have the strength in depth to do it. Teams like Brighton are getting booed at home for mid table nothingness when by all objective measures they’re doing better than expectations and will always sacrifice a good cup run for staying in the PL.

I remember watching Man Utd win it in the 60's when the team was full of British and Irish players. Now, we have multinational teams with the odd English player.

The dominance of English teams in the competition is nothing to do with English football. I have very little interest in it.
I cant remember the last europan matche I watched, rather watch a kettle boil Norman, utterly boring & predictable

I'd go even further, and reverse it. Bottom of the league gets most prize money and decreases as you go up, a bit like how the worst team in the NBA/NFL gets first pick in the draft (I think?!)

That way it keeps the competitiveness. And stop the parachute payments so the relegated teams have to manage with their big pay off for that season but must cut their cloth

And send more money down the divisions to even it up
