Leroy Lita

I just got a WhatsApp from my godson asking my opinion on Leroy Lita. He is playing against him in a pre-season friendly (godson plays for Leicester U23s) v Barwell Town (who?). I am astonished he is still playing at 39.

Lita never made much of an impression when he played for us but I remember him more for his performances for Reading where he seemed to have the knack of scoring.

How would you describe him? Busy but ineffective?

I remember a few posters likening Latte Lath to him 🙈

Lita was busy… a nuisance. Quick but not rapid. A poacher who wasn’t a great finisher.

Never a lack of effort though. And that’s good enough for me 👍🏻

Still played like a talented but raw youngster as he approached veteran status.

Running fast in a straight line and whacking the ball as hard as you can will only take you so far, and he never learned enough to go further. He had athletic talent, but never really fulfilled his early potential

Loved a yellow for taking his shirt off. He wasn’t brilliant but he never went missing, and was a decent player across the piece imo. What was he, roughly a 1 in 3 man? Not too shabby. Someone would pay a Ligue One club £10m+ for that sort of player now.

I said jokingly that lath was like Lita with a brain. Litta was terrible at timing his runs in behind, constantly offside. Maybe more than Slaven. But he did have that waspish knack of harassing defenders and wasn’t a bad finisher, decent pace and strong for his size too

I had an impression of him as being the usual overpaid football type without caring much about the game.

Listened to his under the cosh podcast and I couldn’t have been so wrong.

Such a nice fella and comes across so intelligent.
Has a passion for the game, probs why he’s still playing at 40

I think he had about 18 months where he was really good for them, then his form fell off a cliff for them, did he run his contract down and sign for us for free? I can’t remember
Yeah think that's right. I remember Mogga coaching him through a game (very much like Pulis with Traore) where he timed his runs and ran at angles and was superb. Next game Mogga must have thought he had learned from it but he reverted to what he did previously and was sh it.

clearly loves the game :ROFLMAO:

The type of career that I could only dream of, it's easy to ridicule people on an Internet message board but he's had years of playing professional football and most of it at a good level (including some Premier league games).

He's still going at 39 but good luck to him, comes across as a decent lad and always gave 100% in a Boro shirt.
I'm sure he'd still run rings round most amateur footballers.
