Club legend Grant Leadbitter is raising money and awareness for Gemma Lee, the wife of our U23 lead coach Graeme Lee, and her fight against brain cancer.

Grant, now back with boyhood club Sunderland, is showing his support for his friend and former Rockliffe colleague, and has donated a priceless piece of memorabilia to the cause.

The former Boro captain offered up his match-worn shirt from Boro's unforgettable 1-1 draw with Brighton in May 2016, the match which saw Aitor Karanka's side promoted to the Premier League.

He advertised 100 bonus ball entries on his social media over the weekend, which were quickly snapped up and raised £2,500 for Gemma's treatment.

Although the chance to win the shirt has now passed, you can still donate to this worthy cause here.

Gemma was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2019, but the inoperable tumour which was discovered on her brain is now 'stable' after use of a trial drug from Germany. The drug comes in at £5,000 a month, and funds raised will contribute to covering those costs for the Lee family as well as raising awareness for the rare condition.

Grant said: “We want to help Graeme and Gemma keep this in the spotlight while hopefully raising some money to help them too.

“It’s an awful story but one that hopefully can still have a happy ending. It’s fantastic that this trial drug has helped Gemma, Graeme and their lovely children, Grayson and Hadley.

“It has provided hope and hopefully the shirt I wore against Brighton that day can raise a lot of money to give the fight another boost.”
