Leaving England

Everywhere has pros and cons. How is your malay ? Will you miss your family ?
I know everywhere has pros and cons. I think I said that. My English is fine, as long as I can speak one of the legal languages there will be no issues.

Not sure why you are personally questioning my choice? I was just opening up a debate and seeing what others would do. Not sure why you have to be upset at the countries I want to move to.

Seems to be quite a bit of personal quips aimed at you in this thread, out of order, it's just a debate FFS leave it out

It may come as a surprise to you, but most european countries have a healthcare system that is as good if not better than that in the UK - civilisation doesn't end at Dover. They may be funded differently and work in a different way, but once you become resident and join/contribute to their particular system you are looked after in the same way as you are in this country. The same goes for tax, most if not all have reciprocal arrangements with the UK which will remain in place when the UK leaves.

Nobody but the foolish would make a permanent move to another country without researching thoroughly a particular country's system, so it's a condescending question.

Let me give you a little anecdote.
I was sat in our flat in sweden while my dutch flatman was filling out his annual health insurance forms. His premiums for him and his wife was coming out at 600 euro a month!!! (Let that sink in guys when thinking life could be so much easier elsewhere) He said.he was so envious of what we had in the uk. He didnt look like he was bullshiitting

He invites debate and goes all upset when he is quizzed. There is a pattern here.
I was asking where people would go. You started with the personal insult and aggressive responses. Just temper your language and answer the question

Another anecdote, I am linked with my partner's healthcare cover and pay 65 euros a month. The point being that the cost of healthcare will depend on multiple personal criteria apart from the obvious one of which country you're living in.

Lived in Singapore for 7 yrs. I would love to go back but recently I'm getting a bit worried about the kind of person that are thinking of moving out there.

That seems a good deal, how much does she pay though?
I am not arguing about anyone going to live abroad at all, just pointing out facts that private health care can be a huge cost. Also a fact that in a lot of countries tax and social security cost are way higher than the uk. I was not lying about my Dutch flatmate. Why should I ?

I would assume someone would weigh up those costs though? Like I said the grass isn’t always greener but given the way England is digressing it’s worth a punt. I’d go back to Spain. For example, but unless you know a guy who knows a guy then it’s hard getting anything done quickly. That wouldn’t stop me! L

You’d way it up. If free healthcare was important to you, then you’d probably see if one of the 32 countries that has free healthcare is to your liking. You probably want to think a bit more though. You’re obsessions seem to be taxation and free healthcare. I would say it’s a unicorn country that has both. How do you get one without the other.

Tax and social security costs may be higher in some countries but that can also exist with a higher standard of living.

The standard in this country appears to have dropped as taxes have dropped, personal gain for some at the expense of many.

Some on here have been discussing the potential on retirement to go live abroad. Is that feasible? Ignoring Europe ( and the thorny Brexit conundrum) not easy is it these days without having an economic or family connection to just uproot and go live elsewhere? Australia certainly would not be easy to do that. And with Covid I reckon at leat 2 years off even being able to attempt it.

No you’d have to plan it , I’ve been thinking about things for a while. Although by far the hardest thing for me is convincing the other half. She won’t leave. I guess this thread was basically a “where would you like to go” type of thing but it seems to have evolved into something a bit more intense and detailed. Either way I stick by my first thought

Sorry, but I am not obsessed by anything, as you claim. Im perfectly happy as I am. I find this country fine on the whole. I have lived and worked in many countries, but at the end of thpe day, its friends and family that count most. So I suppose thats what I am obsessed about.

Finally you answered the question! Thanks for that. It was a long road of petty insults and questioning others thoughts but you got there. Glad you like England. Hope you survive the depression

It amazes me how people feel free or entitled to travel the world and work wherever they like, whilst there are many people who feel the same freedoms should not apply to people trying to come and live and work here.
