League one is a sink

Sunderland went straight down from the PL. They still had a squad that contained PL players. We haven't even got that. We would be in a worse position than Sunderland, albeit probably not as bad financially or in terms of supporter apathy. I think we'd rally around a bit more than their fans had although I wouldn't be confident in Steve Gibson doing anything to incentivise fans to turn up, it's season ticket or nothing for him.

All of our championship players are coming to the end of their contract, we'll ship out some of the overpaid rubbish for nowhere near what we paid for them and we'll be left with kids and the players nobody else wants. We probably should be good enough to get out of that league but we shouldn't be anywhere near it to begin with. This season has been a disaster, as predicted the day Woodgate was confirmed. I just hope that Gibson uses the outcome of that decision for some self-reflection and admit that he doesn't know what he's doing and somebody else should be making the decisions.

If Boro go down Gibson must get the managerial appointment correct. He's had a shocker in recent times - Southgate, Monk and Woodgate. The club also needs the fans, as Boro have no right to gain promotion. The Riverside could either be a fortress that promotion is built around, or a nightmare for the home players allowing away teams to pick up points consistently.

Stop worrying about managers, it's the scouting and recruiting that has and will continue to let us down.
I've said my piece often enough, but as someone pointed out on another thread, we are consistently low scorers who fail to sign the players to provide chances. We're good at throwing money at utilitarian midfielders though.
Our L1 budget, should we go down, will need to provide a team that'll instantly start winning matches or we will face several seasons down there potentially.

To be honest, I'd thought that myself. If one positive comes out of this it might be that Gibson actually decides to consider bringing in some outside help, possibly a DoF. As much as I respect him, his decision making since we got promoted to the Premier League has been horrendous. I still can't get over his decision to appoint Woodgate, and then leave it so late to get rid when it's been obvious most of the season he was out of his depth.

Yes that's a good point actually.

Wouldn’t trust Gibson to get us out of it.

I wouldn’t be remotely shocked if he appointed Craig Liddle and we had a team made up mostly of academy players.

If we go down I can honestly see him re-appointing Woodgate, with Friend as his assistant.

If wee go down & a team full of academy players then there is only one man for the job.......Tony Mowbray

In th face of avercity & hiars on the back of the neck speeches, put your arm around the young players & making them feel 10 foot tall, no one better

Though some of the Boro fans have tarnished that at Barnsley, it wont happen

I dont blame Woody, certainly dont dislike him for trying to do something any of us would give our right arm for, his intentions were fine, his signings from the lower league were what we were asking for, the best players from the bottom league, what am I dispaointed with was Keane, IMHO & from what I seen during games, read about his non involvement was that Woody had no help from someone who should be there telling him what to do next, or whats going wrong, obviously I cant prove it but as a striker & a top one at that we had, possibly, the worst lot of strikers in my time following the Boro & showed not one jot of improving
Maybe in hindsight he should have brought Higgy in

Surely, if we do go down (and I think its unlikely with Wigan's points deduction) the best man for the job would be Warnock?
I agree, but I dont think he'll stay past this season, hope I'm wrong mind, but brought in 4 years too late to stop a juggernaught going down a snowy bank with no brakes

Hard to blame just one person IMO.

Woodgate definitely deserves some of the blame though.

Gibson deserves some blame too for picking and sticking with Woodgate as manager.

Pulis is also responsible for assembling the most unbalanced squad I think I've ever seen.

Gibson for letting Pulis do the above.

If we go down, then the blame is made up of a collection of huge errors.

Managers very rarely do, I remember Southgate saying 'i'm no quitter, what message does thats end to my kids, but managers always think the next game will save them

Sometimes you have to understand, accept, that a job is too big for you, not suited to you etc and walk away for the greater good. As a supporter, of this football club Woodgate should perhaps have realised this sooner than most managers.

I blame Woodgate. He should have walked away and given us a chance.

He shouldn't have taken the job on in the first place, especially as he must have known that the fans were dead set against the idea when the rumours started flying around. I have more respect for Strachan, as at least he stepped down when he could see it wasn't working.

People need to have a serious word with themselves if they think it wouldn't be too bad if we went down. It isn't something we should be contemplating now.

The financial hit on the club would be huge alone. We couldn't even get it right getting relegated from the Premier league, what makes people think Gibson and a bunch of our players would get it right in league one? Gibson has got a lot wrong since 2006, our recruitment has been **** awful for years now, I don't even think we would finish in the playoffs in league one.

If people want to enjoy 'away days' at grounds they haven't been to and a derby against Sunderland next season, you're on your own. I certainly don't and real fan of the football club should ever wish that. We look woeful at the minute, but it would be typical Boro to win at Millwall and give ourselves some breathing space.
