They aren't.

And the Government do not give a sh*t. Not one.
They will take the line that there are lots of job vacancies so lazy benefit scroungers should get up off their fat @rses and work. Both Truss and Sunak are hard-line authoritarians as is the bulk of the nationalist faction that used to be the Conservative party.

Let's see what happens when bailiffs start to take tens of thousands of people's few possessions as payment for energy and then evicting them. Hopefully a relvolution.

Dont forget all the businesses (like hospitality) who cant afford to run because of this who will be laying people off left, right and centre....I massive recession is coming...business just can't afford it. This is going to be as bad as Covid unless Government suck up and support the economy.

Might as well sign up to cancelling my direct debit at this point as I won’t be able to pay it for even if I wanted to at this rate.

I was paying just under a 100 quid a month 6 months ago, it'll probably rise to about 600 quid a month by the end of the year. I might just change my direct debit back down to 100 a month and let the debts rack up.

Whats the point in worrying about it.

Flexibility is already stretched beyond the norm, if those prices are correct and see the light of day then there will be trouble for everyone

Something will have to give, either this gets sorted or things will burn

Me and my partner work full time, i like to think we both have quite good jobs and i'm in a position where we probably bring in a bit more than the regional average; We can't afford these bills and the way they're increasing without some seriously big changes to our lives. No summer holidays, shop once a week now to a strict list, changing the car.

Same here and we are on the verge of incomings < outgoings, what is the point of going to work?

Makes me wonder what people on minimum wage do or will do.

Imagine a household where two adults work minimum wage with 3 kids, so they receive little to no benefits. How are they affording these increases? Short of cancelling all tv subscriptions, mobile phones, gym memberships and any luxuries like coffee, cinema trips etc they'll be headed for food banks before long.

Those on jobseekers/dole who get a lot of benefits are in a similiar situation as they get rent paid for and stuff, but they hardly have a load of disposable income and these bills going up mean the same for them.

I know a few lads on really good money, who are whinging about these increases but they understand they're in a lucky position that they can afford the increases without it impacting them.

I can see a lot of people looking at less than legal ways to top up their income and get through this, even just to feed their kids and keep the lights on. I'm not talking about career criminals or wrong uns im talking about Average Joe who works, who needs to figure out a way to keep things ticking over.

Hopefully the food banks will be well stocked otherwise the options will be starve or shoplift for food.

That will be the grim choice for some people.

Foodbanks are filled by donations. If everyone is squeezed so tightly there'll be nothing left for donations.

Like others have mentioned I am in a good position salary-wise and I can afford the increase without going bankrupt but only for so long. My monthly cashflow is already at break-even. It will be negative when the rises kick in. I'm on a temporary salary increase at work and that will end which will make things worse. If people like me are struggling then I can't imagine how people that don't have a good buffer are going to cope.

When I was younger I thought people with my salary were loaded but it definite;y doesn't feel like it. I should be living comfortably and my savings should be going up, not down, and I shouldn't have to be budgeting down to the penny. We have an emergency fund but that should be for emergencies, not for regular costs otherwise we'll have nothing if/when an emergency happens. We don't spend extravagantly, there are obviously things we can (and will) be cutting, we're fairly frugal. It's madness that this is the situation we are in.

I’ve just educated myself on what is in the price cap and how’s its calculated.

10% of costs are for the roll out of smart maters. I honestly didn’t know we were paying for that. I thought it was a government incentive
