Last night team was picked to nullify Fulham

McNair and pace should not be used in the same sentence. He clearly has a lack of pace ,hence his many bookings for hauling players back once they have skinned him.Just before the freekick was taken Bola was left marking Mitrovic, some 3 or 4 inches taller than him. He gestured to Paddy to swap players ,not sure how he got free after that but obviously someone fell asleep or as usual was caught ball watching,a real shame really considering the effort the team had put in before that point.I Thought Fry had a great game against Mitrovic and was up for the physical battle, just a shame one or two others weren’t.
Fry is our most central centre back. Mitrovich should have been his man at the free kick for so many clear reasons. (Position, supposed strength, supposed aerial ability). This was a dead ball, not a move that had caught us all out of position.
The team played pretty well, very well in the second half and deserved to win not snatch a late equaliser. We should have been sad at missing late chances to win, not draw this match.
The team selection was IMHO wrong at wing back and stunted us through the first half.

It felt very similar to the Spurs performance. We seemed happy to allow Fulham to have the ball 1st half, with the focus on keeping our shape and getting to half-time at 0-0. Then we had a proper go in the 2nd half. It was obvious 1st half we were set up to play on the counter and use Watmores pace.

I'm wondering now whether Wilder had planned all along to start with Taylor and to bring Bola on 2nd half, to give us more of an attacking impetus.

I'm absolutely certain the plan was to frustrate Fulham and prevent them from getting into demolition mode and then hit them hard second half as they got tired.

The plan worked, was just the poor finishing and switching off for the goal that did for us.

I think the benefit of the FA Cup is the number of subs you can make. It means you can start solidly, get a foothold in the game then use your bench. Last night we left ourselves with nowhere to go attacking wise.
