Larsen

Rule 1 of not buying into media hype, recruitment teams, chairmen and managers between them must make about 800 calls to different clubs every transfer window inquiring about players, as well as making bids, doesn’t mean that there’s necessarily invested interest or that plans cannot change. Strand Larsen had Boro fans on strings for weeks with a great proportion starting to claim that this lad from Groningen that truthfully about 2-5% had watched play for any length of time was our next messiah.

Yep I was one of those calling for the signing of Larsen......IIRC at around 10 million

Not ashamed to say it felt a desperate situation at the time, we were looking at him, we needed someone and on paper he looked good

Who knows if he would have had the same scoring form as at Celta Vigo but regardless of how wrong my thoughts look now I`m glad it`s worked out for us with Chuba but at the time it didn`t look like that was going to happen

I was all for signing him, but had reservations based on the Erevidisie and strikers bagging loads of goals then struggling elsewhere.
Then his toys-out-of-the-pram shenanigans when Groningen said he's absolutely not for sale - don't like players who do that. So as correctly stated, with Chubas renaissance it looks like we haven't really missed out.
Agree comparing La Liga and Championship is a bit of a stretch.....😬

It’s starting to look like we’ve got our Larsen or Gyokeres for nothing next season when Coburn is back.

Yeah I’m not sure why someone having a slow start in La Liga is proof of anything.
yeah fair point who knows what he would of done in the championship , but look at it another way if we were after signing a striker from La Liga for 10m who had only scored 1 in 13 would we be happy or excited, also would Chubb's of even got a chance if we did sign him again who know's but it has kind of turned out okay which is the main thing for the Boro :)

I wanted us to sign him, but I really wasn't a fan of him openly discussing us being a stepping stone when he hadn't even signed for yet, and in the end he never did.

The reality is that many players will view Middlesbrough that way, but I thought it was a bit disrespectful to so openly say it.

It wasn't just us either, he was saying it about every club he was linked with.
