Labour Party purge/staff cuts.

We all knew as did he that Corbyn was unelectable - destroyed and vilified by a right wing dominated press - I knocked on the doors in Stockton South - Not voting Labour because of Corbyn outweighed not voting Labour because of Brexit by at least 2 to 1. There was not a chance of him ever being elected. Irrespective of whether you like him, agree with him or support his policies he was unelectable. He knew that as much as any of us and should have stood aside - he put himself before the party which was a grave mistake it will take years to get over. The Labour Party became unrecognisable for me under Corbyn - it became all about the in fighting and promotion of the individual splinter group while the real enemy marched on ahead in front of us. Imagine Labour ever losing to a character like Boris Johnson! Wow. Love him or hate him - Blair got Labour to a point we’re they were electable - one vision one enemy - The Tories. We need to unite those who will soon realise the horror having Johnson as PM has unleashed on us behind a Labour leader that can give them hope before a Rishi Sunak or God forbid a Gove get the job.

Absolute *****.

No real reason to think they will whatever happens now is there? Objectively much more likely to dwindle and fold rather than surge to government.

Perhaps not, but if ever there was a test for the left that was easy to pass, it was 2019 against the Johnson, Austerity for 10 years, Brexit paralysed for 4, incompetent, lying, alternative.

It really is time to face it, the people of this country reject the far left, so the party must compromise. The compromised moderate policies of the Corbyn regime, set by ALL the party remember, were fine, it was the mindset and feared direction of travel that puts VOTERS off.

Absolutely spot on. No point having policies that the public like and need, if the leader is unelectable.

Please.

Change UK splintering, MPs like Jon Ashworth sabotaging in the days leading up to the election, Lib Dems explicitly strategising to cost Labour seats rather than the tories, the BBC not bothering with interviewing Boris and then covering for him when he was sh*tfaced at the war memorial, an election in the middle of winter.

Easy? Pull the other one.

The problem is that if you want a roof over everyone's head, food in everyone's belly and a decent publicly owned health system, your classed as far left. 😡.

That is just not true. I am a centrist slightly left of centre, a Blairite to many on here. The truth is only 2 Labour leaders have won elections since 1951. That is a damning statistic. What most people want is Jobs and job security, the hope of buying a home, a holiday abroad, a car, a family and to afford food on the table, a good school for their kids and a decent health service.

They don’t want the thought of higher taxes and less money in their pockets. Most do not care who runs the trains, the power plants, their phone lines, broadband so long as they can afford it. They don’t believe huge tax rises on the wealthy wont drive them and their jobs to cheaper parts of the world leaving the country worse off. Like it or not, we need the entrepreneurs paying taxes here not in Singapore.

I want this government gone asap, parties need to work a way to forge an alliance to achieve it though and be prepared to put the 2 party system into history. Harping on about Nationalisation (which I personally agree with in certain industries btw) raising taxation, taxing peoples assets, giving freebies doesn’t wash. Joe public understands debt and its effects far more than the rich, and it frightens them.

Highest amount of votes for the Labour Party since Blairs first election. So that's b***ks.

Fat lot of good it did them though, great in a PR system, pointless in a 2 party system if you come 2nd. Brexit fudged the votes anyway. People were all over the shop, Labour brexit supporters voting tory, tory remainers voting Liberal and Labour in some areas.

The Westminster Voting Intention poll shows a 7% swing to Labour.
The Best Prime Minister poll shows an 8% swing to Starmer.

He's behind Boris in a week when he's tried to wriggle out of doing the same Coronavirus self isolation everyone else has to do.

There's positives if you look for them.

I don't really know why I'd want to look for them? I read news to try and understand what's actually going on, not to try and convince myself everythings okay despite evidence to the contrary?

You and me mate. We're the 'hard left' apparently. Doesn't that make you feel special? The rest of them are soft as sh1te.

Corbyn was elected by the membership, he was on a mandate from them. Same for Starmer now

Very few Tory remainers voted Labour. Corbyn was too toxic.

I liked Corbyn, wanted to give him a chance and thought it was disgraceful of the PLP to undermine him in his first two years as they did.

But you have to say, on reflection, they were right. So their actions weren't as disgraceful as many of us thought. They knew him and judged pretty astutely that he would not be a good leader or be PM material. It's a shame MacDonell wasn't the Left's candidate after Ed Miliband stepped down. He might have faced similar attacks, but he'd have been a better leader and he wouldn't have put up with the disastrous Milne.
