Labour making steps towards a Progressive Alliance?

Tories would expect to lose Wakefield in most circumstances - its only a 3300 majority at the high watermark of 2019

Tiverton is the real test for them, hopefully it will be a repeat of North Shropshire

I agree with you, however I just do not see PR happening. Neither the Tories or Labour would vote for it as both would lose seats to the Greens, Lib Dems and even some to a far right party.
I sincerely hope you're wrong with that. Labour need to learn that FPTP is never going to give them another one party mandate.

I think Labour might be (slowly) coming to the realisation that they can no longer win an outright majority under the FPTP system. Whilst a PR system would undoubtedly cost them seats, it would be much more likely to lead to a Labour-led government than the current system.

I think the main obstacle would be the fact that FPTP suits the SNP just fine too. In order to get electoral reform through the Commons, there would need to be a Labour/LD/Green/PC majority after the next election.

We can only hope (and vote for it).

I personally don't see a problem in Scottish or Welsh independence nor in Irish unification as long as it can be achieved without erecting borders (physical, political or legal) it would have to be on the guarantee of permanent market and customs unification/synchronisation. And perhaps some sort of mutual security arrangement for military provision?

It would perhaps stop us pretending we still have an Empire or influence in the world and just get on with improving the lot of all the people who live here. We have much to give the world but we need to give up the silly notion of British/English Exceptionalism.

3 new polls today, 2 give Labour a 6 point lead and one a 7.

That would mean a Labour/Lib Dem coalition would likely be enough to form a majority.

That would need a return to the Single Market unless Eire leaves the EU. It's a possible way back.
