Kids Eh?

It’s absolutely incomprehensible how, in a rich country like ours, this type of life is still being lived, today!
It’s absolutely disgraceful and many people should be feeling ashamed, but sadly won’t be.
It’ll be the decent people who want to make a difference, who have empathy and kindness, who try in any little way that they can, that will feel ashamed.
The people responsible will more than likely feel nothing. They’ll label it virtue signalling
What have we become?!

I rarely listen to 5 live these days bu occasionally try and catch the sports news at half past.
There was a debate over running on this issue.
A guy basically saying its parental responsibility and we shouldn’t intervene - as well as trotting out the old chestnut ‘they need to get a job...’
Other fella then tried to walk him through what poverty looked like: choosing between topping up the gas or electricity; people taking light bulbs from one room to another to save money; choosing which child gets the new gym showes etc.

The guy responded - I’ve been out of work, I know what it’s like I went from a huge salary to ‘well I’m not going to say because some people won’t like it’.......

They just can’t/wont comprehend what poverty looks like to some people. They don’t care.
That little girl on the video sums it up nicely.
The beauty of naive logic without the learned bigotry

It doesnt help that the media take every opportunity to label everyone claiming benefits as living some life of luxury while the rest of us are out grafting with no help, which basically lets them get away with this sort of thing without any real consequence from their voters.

That video is one of the most heart breaking things you will ever see, again regardless of anything else its the kids that inevitably suffer.

Had that conversation last night with a mate who is in the 'they are robbing the state blind camp and need to take responsibility'.
I said something like....
for the sake of argument, lets assume every kid is in poverty because of irresponsible and profligate parents.
The kids are still going hungry.
These vouchers are for food to feed the kids. Without them the parents aren't going to change their behaviour, get a job, cut out the fags etc. They have never had these vouchers.
The vouchers are for food.
Without them nothing, absolutely nothing changes. That means the kids still don't get fed, they are malnourished and that goes on to affect their education and life forever.

I probably wasn't that concise or lucid because I was frothing at the mouth in anger.

Still don't think it made a difference to his thinking.

You want to say to that mate what is thoughts are on

1. Giving billions worth of contracts to companies with directors linked to the Government to produce half baked worthless systems

2. Set up a loans system which has been pillaged to the tune of £2 billion by fraudsters.

Now THAT is robbing the state blind

Drives me absolutely mad when my kids turn their nose up at food, or don't finish what is put in front of them. We make a point of telling them how lucky they are to have 3 meals a day.

it's disgusting how kids are going hungry in this country while our government do as little as possible to help.

I'm actually going to get my daughter to watch this video now.

OK, so she just sat and watched it with me, and to be honest, we're both in tears, it made me upset seeing her get upset when the penny dropped about this. She couldn't believe that people go to bed hungry, and also now understand where those tins of food we give her to take to school end up.

Wow, just wow (y)

We even have a local MP justifying his vote yesterday on the basis he “had heard” some parents were wasting the vouchers on booze, cigarettes, lottery tickets - which is impossible and a complete fabrication. Disgusting that a professional MP cannot be bothered to look at fact before voting instead basing his vote on pathetic here say.
