Kevin Blackwell interview

“The first thing we do after going in to a club is watch where the goals have come from,” he says.

“Was it a regular fault? A failure to mark? Lack of awareness from a certain player? Someone playing in the wrong area and getting caught? We looked at those goals, noted a few things that had happened. Training was then about making sure those same mistakes didn’t happen again.

Interesting observation.

Yep, sounds so simple yet that is what footballers want. Clear and bold instruction to follow. You hear that a lot from ex pros when listing a good managers qualities.

Head screwed on. Fix the basics. Keep instructions simple remember footballers are not noted for their intelligence. Future manager if NW really "wants to retire" ?

Looking at that picture with Blackwell demonstrating tactics, he shows more in that one clip that Keane showed in his whole time here, I said at the time & more after when results were not improving, what exactly does he do at the Boro
I will say here when you look at Blackwell playing career next to Keabes, like night or day yet Keane will not achieve what Blackwell has, it annoys me when I read that because of his excellent playing record they had him down as a good manager in the making, didn't see, or read anything to think yep I can see that

I think there was a definite "if you're not sure row Z" to our defensive clearances against Stoke. I wonder if they have identified us trying to play it from the back as a cause for goals conceded?

This is pretty much what Karanka did when he first arrived. The defence was immediately sorted. Although we didn't score for 4 games I think!
