Keir Starmer announces UK will recognise state of Palestine by September...

Anybody with a private pension (which is millions of people) needs market stability for their retirement but I appreciate this will not be on the radar of younger people for obvious reasons.

And "market stability" is when you deregulate the city right? Cause then we all get to enjoy the trickle down...

It’s the capitalist system we live in, whichever party is in power.

Personally I think it has failed but it will take some unravelling Superstu.

Yeah, and they'll start any day now, TRUST me bro! Just a few more cuts to disability benefits then after that it'll be unravelling capitalism time HONESTLY!

I know it’s a real pain when a PM avoids the economy crashing…bring back Liz Truss 👍
What does that even mean - Liz Truss proposed a system that was untenable. That doesn't mean there's no alternative to the status quo. Starmer is meant to be leading the party of the working people.

Please don’t tell me you still think rich pensioners should get the fuel allowance without a means test?
I do. It's far easier, and cheaper, to tax from the top than it is to means test everybody.

It's just politically impossible while we let a small circle of right-wing media and business types influence policy to the extent they do.

I don’t think there is any serious argument that millionaire pensioners should be getting £200 for the gas bill when we have food banks, there is a far better use of taxpayer money than that isn’t there?

I don’t know Superstu I don’t detect any rebellion against the system coming soon.

Maybe only tax rises would stir them up….

Yes, there is a serious debate over replacing direct means-testing with a universal scheme where higher‑income pensioners effectively repay via tax.

Ok but that does seem to amount to the same result that those pensioners who are well off don’t get the fuel payment, which is correct in my view.

A similar result and the easiest way to achieve it which doesn't require means testing and avoids less savvy people slipping through the net.

There is another band of pensioners with no/little income (other than state pension) who have savings (outside of a pension pot) who are also fiercely well off.

I guess we are not going to capture everyone.

Means testing is likely to cost more to put in place than it will generate so what you are talking about is a good first step.

I think the Muppet of a PM should tread very carefully....in what he says and does....

I'd agree....
I'd suggest that both he , and the other members of the cabinet.. accepting donations as part of the "friends of Israel" group should tread carefully.

It's a pretty shytty look ... being on the side of those commiting genocide , starvation campaigns, war crimes , and the most child amputees in any conflict in recorded history.

A Palestinian State should have been fully recognised by the UK in 1948 and existed side by side with Israel since 1948. Leaving Palestinians stateless and very weak has played into the hands more extreme political elements amongst Palestinians and Islamic neighbours since 1948. The current hell in Gaza is a ideal breeding ground for the extremists of the future. Politicians around the World must see this, but no one seems to want to admit it or think about it.

Get this man out before he costs us even more!!! hes a fooking clown
