Karanka manager of Brum

I think it is a great appointment for them, not so sure him though. I doubt he would have taken it if he wasn’t assured of reasonable backing mind. I can’t wish him well though as Birmingham are a club I really do not like post 1975

Big big job for Aitor.

He had the backing and the platform at us to get promotion.

I don't think he has either at Brum, so will be a completely different task.

The task he had at Forest was hard, but this at Brum is even harder.

Wish him luck though.

Disappointed for him tbh. He should have learnt from his stint at Forest that going to a club renowned for bad ownership and constantly changing managers isn't a step in the right direction.

I could be wrong, but can't see him lasting to this time next year. They've had 10 managers in 10 years since being relegated.

I was hoping he would be our next manager. Maybe sometime next season?

Your club sounds similar though in the sense they get rid of managers willy nilly. Surprised he’s went to Birmingham though, at least at Almería he would have a chance of being successful even if it ended up in a sacking. At Birmingham I see a sacking and a pretty poor season

I agree with that. Although just a season for us. Since the new ownership.

At one point in the season he was seen watching a match with the new owner (on tv in Saudi). The article said he was advising the club about the new academy they are building. Plus other issues.

Maybe he has decided it is too volatile a situation to step in to.

Possibly. It’s a shame he can’t get a job with a good set of owners. Feel for him tbh he deserves a decent job.

He's probably aware its a dog of a job, but I suppose he needs to be managing a team - any team - to have any chance of progressing to a better proposition.

AK could have trouble with the owners - AK appears to want to know he is well respected and 6 months on he may not get that if Brum are not top 6.

I have a lot time for AK - he works very hard, is intelligent and modest. His teams are always organised. Clubs get their money's worth with him. No matter want some say on here I feel he left us in a better position than when he arrived.

I hope he's not money grubbing!

There's obviously something about the job that he's found appealing, but it not obvious looking from the outside. He knows this league well and i'm sure he'll improve/steady them, but i can't see him being able to get that club up towards the top 6

The English Championship is a great league - I would put it above many Premier Leagues in some European countries such as Scottish Premier. I think turnover wise it is the fifth richest in Europe.

Its great because it is so competitive, anyone can beat anyone, there is enough money to attract good quality players from all around the world.

Many clubs have a hard core of 15k plus fans - I don't see that in lower parts of say the French, Spanish or Italian leagues.

This does make it attractive to managers like AK. I would expect the financial rewards are higher than in many European Leagues for managers too. At present he is not going to get a job at one of the big Spanish clubs, so it would be a club like Leganes (nickname : cucumber pickers) at best.

I would put it above ours. Much more exciting for some of the reasons you mention.
