Karanka does the keepy up challenge and nominates Steve Gibson!

Best manager in donkeys years for us. I’d have him back in a heartbeat and what’s more I genuinely think he has a strong love for the club and it became more than just a job for him.

Ye that was ultimately his downfall sadly.

That said, I still remember beating Swansea 3-1 and then saying 'this was our worst performance of the season' I get it was trying to fire the players up but just no.

(Plus he really didn't use Traore enough)

You only have to see his reaction after the final whistle vs Brighton - after shaking Hughtons' hand he goes to blow a kiss at Gibson.

I loved his passion, and the fact he helped to reconnect the fans with the club.

Maybe, looking back he was too passionate. His temperament got the better of him in the end, but there's still a part of me that wishes Gibson had have stuck by him, and given him the opportunity to take us straight back up (which I think he would have done).

As unlikely as it seemed at the time, we also can't say for sure whether he might have kept us up that season.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat, people saying be took us down but but how often does that happen, we weren't good enough, he would have taken us straight back up though. A manager like him doesn't come round too often and is snap him up.

Worst season ever in the Premier League under Karanka...some of you have your rose tinted glasses on me thinks !

Not really his fault in my opinion. Remember we were mid table in the league at Christmas after beating Swansea 3-0 at home and then 1-0 up with 10 mins to go at Old Trafford before New Year before running out of steam.

That January transfer window has been the catalyst for our downward spiral. If rumours are true, Karanka wanted Jesé, Delefeau and Bojan. The club gave him Bamford, Gestede and Guerdioura and badly let him down. Aitor never helped himself as he appeared to give up himself at this point, become moody, sniping at staff, fans etc, like a spoilt child who had been told he couldn't have what he wanted but the club wanted to go cheap with the players and we suffered. They then went even cheaper by "We're going with Agnew". Disasterous.

For Aitors reign I see:

Took over Nov 2013 till end of season - steadied us, made us hard to beat and laid the foundations.
First full season 14-15 - Just short of automatic after been in promotion places most of the season and ultimately fell short at Wembley. (I actually enjoyed this season more than the promotion season and was gutted we couldn't top it off with promotion).
Second full season 15-16 - Promotion. A huge success.
Third season 16-17 - As above no problems pre Christmas. Jan transfer window was a disaster and he was gone in March. That Jan to March period was his only really poor winless run while in charge.
