I have just written to my local MP, Nadine Dorries. I am not really expecting a reply, but should I recieve one I will post it here.
Good morning Ms Dorries,
I write to you to place on record my disappointment in the government’s handling of Dominic Cummins ignoring of the lockdown rules with respect to his trip to Durham and subsequent trip to Barnard Castle.
He clearly broke government legislation, regardless of what we are told by either Mr Cummins or Mr Johnson. I read the legislation, to be sure of what it contained prior to writing this email. Mr Cummins was allowed, by the then legislation to Travel to “Access critical public services, including childcare” Given that neither Mr Cummins niece, nor his sister are public services, he clearly contravened legislation.
His trip to Barnard Castle on his wife’s birthday is another contravention of the then legislation. What is a bigger concern around this trip is twofold. Firstly, we the electorate are expected to believe this nonsense story about testing his eyes and ability to drive to London. This has since been supported by senior ministers. Secondly, he used the “caring father” narrative to support an illegal trip to visit his parents. Why, when Mr Cummins ability to drive was impaired, would you take a 4 year old in the car with you?
I, along with many other voters, find this treatment by the Conservative government to be deeply offensive given the sacrifice made by people who have lost loved ones and were unable to be with those loved ones in their last moments. Loved ones were left to die alone. Partners have been left to mourn alone.
I would be very interested to hear your opinions on this matter because as things stand I could not, in all good conscience, support you in any future elections. My refusal for support is largely to do with your silence on this matter. I would be very grateful to hear your thoughts on both the actions of Mr Cummins and the support for Mr Cummins given he is an unelected employee.
