On sky sports classics. It’s not a classic for me. I think Man City we’re trying to qualify via fair play league so we’re never gonna be getting stuck in.... obviously Dunne goes off (wrongly)

But just realised how good Downing performance is. Even the 4th goal he wins the ball mid our own half to set it up.

I was sat in a bar abroad with a Sunderland fan that day. Son was texting me the score, he stopped believing me when it went past four.

I thought it was some sort of player protest from the City players due to the management setup at the time?

I thought it was a bit suspect but some of our goals were absolute worldies, what a day that was

i think numerous factors just all came together. A few great goals by us that you wouldn't normally expect to see scored in the same game, a dodgy red card, and an opposition whose manager was leaving and some disinterested players.

I gave the game a miss and went up great gable instead. On the way down my phone went mad with texts as it reconnected and I received all the goal updates from my daughter in the space of about twenty seconds.

....and the rest is history - Just shows how drastically your fortunes can change if you have a very, very rich benefactor

It was.

it was about the then owner shinawatra and His treatment of erikson once they were losing they all but through the game it wasn’t as it looked it annoys me how people still use that as a sign that we did well under Southgate.

Dunne sending off didn’t help but it was basically a white flag from city.

From bbc

If, as is widely expected, this game proves to be Sven-Goran Eriksson's final game in charge of City then it was a miserable end to his reign at Eastlands.
Interview: Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate
And if City owner Thaksin Shinawatra was still unsure about the Swede's future before kick-off, this defeat could well have made up his mind for him.
City were torn apart by Boro who, without some excellent saves from visiting keeper Andreas Isaksson, would have reached double figures at a canter.
