Julia and Angela

Lots of social media fury about this, but are we now saying that rival politicians (I know JHB is nothing of the sort) can't be civil to each other, even friends ?

Apparently Thatcher was very fond of Foot, even though politically they were miles apart.

Just looks like another way to bash the current Labour leadership, further weakening their credibility ahead of a GE.

I think there's more to this than meets the eye, really odd place to meet, a warehouse project party, with the polar opposite person of the political spectrum. I think it was set up

I thought the days of my nan asking if he was Catholic when taking friends to her house had passed.

My Nana used to do that, bizarrely, too, even though she never went to church (outside of weddings etc). I remember when I got some incense she told me it was what Catholics used.

I didn't realise there was such sectarianism rooted into that generation.

And there’s a man in the picture clearly wearing a woolly hat indoors! 🤬

Absolute nothing story. FFS.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest, but only because it confirms what I already knew - they're all just playing to the cameras in the commons and on Question Time etc. Political life, I am pretty convinced, is highly consuming. Behind the scenes they probably mostly all get on really well and don't even think all that differently in reality.

I'll vote for Labour but really its only because I think that, after Brexit/covid, its high time someone else had a stab at bolloxing up the country.

I remember the furore recently when ed balls defended his friendship with George Osborne after attending his wedding. In my mind when policies influct such direct abject misery like Osborne did i cant see how any Labour politicians can get on socially. Its like staying friends with a pedophile. To me balls attitude was wrong almost trivialising politcs as a cross party game. Rayner has far more integrity than balls so i dont infer anything sinister from that photo

This exactly what's happening. Right wing media in operation overdrive to start to undermine the labour leadership. Loathsome though JHB is I don't see anything wrong in her being friendly with AR. Wonder how they got the photo?

The thing is you can be as cynical about this as you like.

Is JHB trying to ingratiate herself with the next government?

Is AR trying to fall back from her position on Tories being scum?

They are probably just 2 people who have spoken before, have mutual friends and have met in a non-work environment.
