Jonny Howson

A lot of threads on Tav tonight and justified in a lot of ways but I just wanted to give recognition to Jonny Howson. He was absolutely immense tonight both defensively and going forward. He's just a class act the way he reads the game, moves the ball about and carries the ball forward. For me he's absolutely thriving under Wilder. I just wish he was 5 years younger.

A few oh=n here had written him off in the past. Another good game.

I was one who didn’t understand what he brought to the team when we first brought him in. Thought games passed him by, but he’s got better and better and has been absolutely invaluable for us for a good 3 years + now, especially this past few months. Fantastic buy and the one good thing to come from Monk’s reign

Just watched his interview after the game. Reminds me of Leadbitter the way he speaks about the game. Enjoying his football and probably wants it more than anyone else on the pitch given his age. Haven’t been his biggest fan over the last couple seasons but under a clever manager he’s looking like one of our better players. The man never gets tired.

He said in his first pre-season camp interview that he had already agreed to sign for Boro toward the end of the previous season, before Monk had been signed, so not a Monk player in truth.

JH is our version of James Milner, both have 120,000 mile engines and the longevity of an elephant. He had a super game on Friday and again tonight. Seems to revel in high pressure quality matches, with an unerring coolness. Experience which will hopefully rub off on the younger players.

Another excellent match last night following his MOTM perform v Man Utd

I've always liked him here, hes been a great signing, a couple of seasond back there was a spell when he was out for a few months & on his return he really struggled to make an impact

He soon turned that around & back to the player we signed

Me and you both Erimus. Absolutely love him

He has a lot of influence on how we play and despite being the deepest lying of the midfield three, he plays in some advanced positions, so it would be wrong to label his role as a holding midfielder.

Along with Jones I just hope he stays fit because we would feel their loss more than anywhere else in the pitch.

I'm more than a little suprised we've not seen him sign a new deal. The current one is up in the summer and I doubt he wants a 'new challange'

I know it's maybe league / wage reduction dependant. You'd think we'd offer him one? He never misses a game and can play in 2-3 positions.

I think he could even do a job if we went up due to experience and versatility.

Give the lad another year👍

Think we now see the player we paid the money for. He has been exceptional the last couple of months. Stand out performer and consistent.
