It was Player of the Year night at the Riverside for Boro Supporters Club 2020 last night.
Held over from last season - Jonny Howson was Player of the Year and Isaiah Jones Young Player of the Year. Both were overwhelming first choices in the supporters club polls held for season 2021-2022.
Jonny Howson posed for pics and signed autographs for the room full of supporters who all queued patiently before the pies and peas were served up. The award was presented by Joanne Bolton in memory of her husband and long time secretary of the former Official Supporters Club, the late Simon Bolton.
Jonny gamely answered questions set from host Gary Philipson as well as supporters. Firstly Jonny said how the empty stadiums during covid had underlined that football is nothing without the fans. It was really interesting to hear the match plan from the opposition camp when Norwich broke our hearts at Wembley in the play off final. First goal will be the winner was the Norwich outlook and so all about getting quickly out of the blocks. This approach wasn't harmed by Boro's late arrival, something not lost on the Canaries.
I was the last of the eleven raffle prize winners. Top prize was a match-worn Patrick Bamford Boro shirt - real value in that. I won a really nice commemorative Jack Charlton booklet put together for a recent player reunion by the late Peter Hodgson.
