It's pretty likely Carrick has said to him something along the lines of "They're onto you now, they know what you can do. So they're likely to stick two players on you to reduce your effectiveness. That's fine. We can work round that. Should you have your limpets close by when you receive the ball then drag them along to you and pass. There will be spaces left by them doing that and I don't want you trying to go past two AND hit a cross in under pressure as it's more likely another available player, with space to run into and under less pressure will be able to hit a more telling through ball.
Should their marking be off and you DON'T have those two near you then go for it, I have confidence you can do that. But should two players be close by and attempting to block your progress then pass, pass, pass. And we're more likely to make things happen."
