Johnson's scandals- how on earth did he get where he is

The author is right- the blame lies with the voters
The x-factor generation, flashy advertisements, slogans, nicknames, a backstory and a bit of personality over actual talent goes a long with with huge swathes of the public these days sadly.

He is a con man, he has managed to convince a lot of ordinary people that he is somehow a trustworthy change from the traditional politicians who tell lies and do nothing.

It’s bizarre in my opinion, I read somewhere a theory that he is a psyop and I’m beginning to believe it’s true, there is something very odd going on.

Twenty years ago, if one tenth of the charge sheet at Johnson's door was attributed to a politician of any political stripe they would have been toast long ago but we are now firmly in the post-truth era where lies, bribes and hypocrisy mean nothing.

Totally agree there Holgate. Still waiting for the Russian report to be released.

It's a cult

Stockholm syndrome

People moan all the time on Facebook about various things, when I mention maybe 11years of tory austerity has something to do with it I get pelters and told its starmer / corbyns fault even got told something was Tony Blair fault the other day, when I pointed out he hadn't been in charge since 2007 I got told that was irrelevant!

The demonisation of Blair is beyond belief. It's been going on for a 15 years. The Tories couldn't afford to have people accept that the late 90s early 00s were the most positive period for the majority of Brits in living memory. With plenty of jobs, a good social support system, NHS hitting targets, new infrastructure rolling out, and a reduction in the gap from the 1% to the majority. But, you know "war criminal" that killed 200k people, FFS. It's not even an honest assessment of the entire Iraq situation either but people have lapped it up because it's been repeated ad nauseum for 15 years. They still repeat it and beat the Labour party down with it, despite almost every Tory voting for invasion, including the next 3 Tory Prime Ministers - Cameron, May and Johnson, who were 100% in favour of military action. Like it or not, on the domestic front Tony Blair is the best prime minister we have had in living memory and a return to many of his policies would see a much better country than what we have today.

He is though, along with Bush. A five year old could see they were lying about WMD, biological weapons and the rest. Blair didn't have the balls to stay out because UK is a vassal state.

I was p!ssing myself a few days ago when the Today programme did broadcasts from this new 'British' aircraft carrier. It has more US navy planes on board than UK plus the Americans who fly them. We have literally paid for and built a mobile airstrip to ferry the USA's air force around the world. We will also be paying their running costs. It was equally sad, tragic, hilarious and humiliating. You might call it taxation without representation.

So yes, they broke away from teh UN security council ruling. Cameron, May and Johnson all voting for it makes them war criminals too, he was enacting parliaments decision. But lets just be honest about that too, Russia and China wanted control of the oil in that region and would never, ever have supported action. Some other countries had deep reservations about the behaviours of Saddam, his thwarting of weapons inspectors, his goading of other countries, his allowing his people to take the brunt of economic sanctions and starve, while he sat in his gold palace and of course, his brutal murderous behaviour towards his own people.

Lets also not pretend that Saddam wasn't a murderous b****d, and try and imagine how many people would have died, had Saddam continued as leader of Iraq, when the arab spring hit, and his absolute authority was questioned, we would have had another gassing of the Kurds, more beheadings, possible civil war. The country was a tinderbox, and would always be while he was in charge, because he was a dictator. No one ever talks about how many Kurds, and Shia muslims were not murdered when he was deposed?

All I'm hearing is that those that point the finger at Blair are completely comfortable with Saddam Husseins brutal murders, conservatively guestimated at 250k of his own people, plus the 1.4mill that died in the Iraq-Iran war, plus the people he killed invading Kuwait. Who knows, if he was allowed to remain in power for another 10 years, he probably would have broken through the 2.5mill deaths. But you know Blair didn't kill those people, so who cares, right?

So why didn't Bush and Blair put that forward as cassus belli? I'll tell you why. Because the people of UK and US would not think that sufficient reason for war because they themselves were not in danger. So Bush and Blair literally terrorised their own population with lies to get the war they wanted. And you are ok with your elected politicians doing that to you?

possibly, but you know that's populism. We know the British people have scant regard for the lives of foreigners. Be it wanting to drown people in dinghies in the channel, or cut out all foreign aid, and let people starve, they're popular vote winning policies amongst huge swathes of the population.

Bush Senior and Thatcher should have done the job properly first time, and ploughed through to Baghdad and arrested him first time. They ballsed up, and allowed the problem to continue.

No I'm not ok, with lies from politicians. But I'm also not ok with strategy by popularism as most people are dumb as rocks and selfish.

Are you ok with just letting Saddam continue un charge murdering his own people then? Gassing the Kurds again, hanging shia muslims for fun? invading neighbouring nations? How many people do you think he would have killed if we had basically let him continue in charge?

Do you also accept that the MPs are the ones who decided to go to war, by voting to, therefore they are all, including Cameron, May and Johnson just as culpable for those lives?

Back to the original point, the problem lies with us, the people/voters.
And more recently with the new phenomenon of politicians not standing down when they should, from Teresa May onwards. Again the people* didn't make a fuss enough about her Brexit FK ups/losses and she just merrily carried on. See also Trump's fiasco in the States. Since then , it's a free for all (see Cummins not standing down after blind gate etc.)

When I say the people, I obviously mean the popular press.
