Johnson accused of 'contempt' for north by snubbing Doncaster for Kiev

Following his highly publicised trip to see Zelensky last week Johnson was on the news last night getting interviewed with an RAF plane in the background.

Unfortunately I think this dangerous man is preparing the U.K. population mentally for war, it would not surprise me if he tries to escalate our involvement in the Ukraine as the next election approaches and try to give Tories the excuse to vote for him as the best man available to square up to Putin.

Another classic example of FMTTM pile ons when a respected poster dares to have a different opinion to others and is then declared 'thick' amongst other descriptives.

Johnson is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. I personally was quite pleased to see him in Kiev. Granted the city isn't the scene of a warzone, but Zelinsky seemed pleased to see him, much happier than when Macron had a hold of him a couple of days earlier. I would have thought folks would have been happier Johnson was closer to the end of a .50 in Kiev than if he was in the rough streets of Doncaster, England, famous as the birthplace of the Flying Scotsman, the invention of the modern toilet and Louis Tomlinson. Much more likely to end his leadership over in Kiev than over here.

The poster you are referring to wasn't called 'thick' by anyone but other posters rightly highlighted his total mis-representation of the circumstances as are you. Opinions are like ****., everyone's got one. You say he's respected and he may be by others but not by me.

Onto the crux of the issue, it is Johnson's tendency to run away and hide when faced with a difficult situation which has been remarked on both on here but also by many political journalists and commentators. So you can trot out the line 'damned if he does, damned if he doesn't' all you like but nobody should be fooled by his deflection techniques.

Show me where anyone called him thick.

Show me where anyone called him thick.
"Anyone who doesn’t think this was a last minute arrangement in his own political interests is an idiot"

@BoroFur what have I misrepresented? Yes he more than likely went to Kiev to escape the heat here. People want him gone from this country, he left, to a country that's been attacked, to a safe part of it anyways, and people are still unhappy. Get him as far away from the UK as possible.

As for those who believe Zelinsky has been anywhere near the front lines in Ukraine? Really? As Russian enemy number two his people wouldn't allow it.

Johnson is just dammed full stop. We all know why he went to Ukraine, even you know it, so you have to question someone who tries to defend him for running away from his problems

Another classic example of FMTTM pile ons

What’s with this thing of labelling everything a ‘pile on’, when it’s just a viewpoint that is clearly not one shared by the majority of posters, being discussed/dissected?
I don’t get how that’s a pile on?

Like in any discussion where people have a difference of opinion, some may be seen to take it too far or get too passionate/frustrated, or get rude, or be sarcastic, but if you post an opinion on a public forum for discussion, and it turns out you hold the minority position in that particular group, you can’t then jump to ‘pile on’ everytime a majority posts to disagree with it. Majority on this particular thread have been perfectly reasonable in their disagreement with Erimus, or just discussed the topic more broadly. It’s offensive to then paint everybody with the different viewpoint to be part of some baying, bullying mob, just because they’ve disagreed. In exactly the same way that it’s unfair to call everyone with the opposite viewpoint an idiot!

More importantly and on topic -
"Anyone who doesn’t think this was a last minute arrangement in his own political interests is an idiot"

Do you think this wasn’t a ‘last minute arrangement in his own political interests‘?

People are furious with Johnson, but not over this. Id say the majority who see through him for what he is dont really care what meetings he takes and where anymore. Most are just commenting on his obvious motivation for running off to Ukraine and correcting the embarrassingly misguided viewpoint that he's done it as some sort of noble, self sacrificing gesture. (Rather than for his own benefit as per).

the people who are "unhappy" about it are his own MPs. I don't think anyone is losing sleep over their feelings.

Erimus is a fabulous contributor to the board with Boro history and his musical nostalgia. However that doesn’t exempt him, me, you or anybody else from challenge when offering a political opinion. I’m sure even Erimus understands that.

Typical Tory twisting.

I ask again, show me where anyone called specifically Erimus ‘thick’.

It is my opinion, and that of many others it seems, that Johnson is using Ukraine in his own interests.

Much of this is based on precedent of course...his past actions suggest he only ever acts in his best interests, not those of others.

Then, if you analyse our 'support '...it's basically weaponry (which of course Ukraine are happy for) and grandstanding against Putin:

We seek no political solution (the only way this end, barring a conflict that lasts years)
We were bottom of the pile in supporting the refugee crisis
We were slow off the mark in taking action directly against oligarchs
We continue to have a guy in the HoL whereas Canada have his father on their sanctions list

We will not be part of the solution. Having abdicated our position at the Top Table of Europe, and having demonstrated subsequently to be wholly untrustworthy. But bluster and an inflated sense of worth is yet another area of bullsh1t that appeals to the clowns base.

This is interesting and adds weight to the argument he knew what was coming in the media -

“I was in lengthy and detailed communication with No 10 [The Prime Minister’s Office] at a high level, Ben Gascoigne and Mrs Johnson’s spokeswoman for up to 48 hours before the paper went to press. At no point did any of them offer an on-the-record denial of any element of the story.”

Simon Walters, of The New European.

And a US media outlet has picked it up -

Its a very dangerous situation - the economic and political reverberations are already being felt across the world.
For me, I refuse to get involved with the name-calling adolescent behaviour [of some, not all] on here and elsewhere.
What I do object to is the "thought" process of "If you are not for us - you are against us" - "if you dont support Ukraine you are a Putin mouthpiece".
For what its worth I disagree with Erimus entirely on his posted assertions, but hes still a friend and hes a gentlemen.
Those who demonise others and attack them like wild rabid-riddled dogs dont convince anyone with their rhetoric and demagogy.
War isnt a play-ground.
Those who encourage escalation of war should sign up - dont send others to their deaths via a keyboard.

Yep, UK is too dangerous for Bunter atm. Kyiv's a much safer bet

Mind you when you look at the current Tory candidate for Wakefield (Tories are not as bad as Harold Shipman) you can see why he might want to give the Northern gig a miss.

Should be another big week for bungling Boris, a country battered by rail strikes and losing 2 seats in the house. Not to mention the worst attempt every to squash the story about his £100k p.a. hooker Carrie Symmonds.
Those Red Wall MP's are going to be getting tetchier as they start reconsidering their next career move. I hope it involves regular trips to food banks.

I think they’ll lose Wakefield but hold Tiverton and Honiton. Which will then be presented by the Tories as some kind of massive result.
