Might as well fine him a packet of peas, or some belly button fluff.

If you are going to have fines as a genuine deterrent punishment, at least means-test them, otherwise you or I can ring the barber to pop around and expect roughly a 1/2 pence fine as equivalent.

OR are deterrent punishments just for the masses and only the 99% are expected to comply?

I suspect the club fined him more than £200, but I see your point!

Has the barber been fined or punished? I agree the fine is paltry, but this is an issue which needs looking at - plenty of footballers have been sporting brand new haircuts over the last few weeks.

i don't think you're realistically going to be able to implement means testing for fines, it's a potentially a massive admin task

They do for speeding offences (and probably others types as well). It is capped though at £2.5k.

Even a hundred times that would have no impact. A month’s wages might, but not a great deal.

A 6 month ban from the field of play would be a proper punishment but I fear Newcastle’s performances would improve no end as a result.
