Joe Lumley

Consistently as bad as Lumley?
Betinelli is way worse than Lumley.

All keepers make mistakes, more so at this level and Lumleys overall game is OK, if it wasn't for the fact that he makes far too many elementary mistakes. That's not a lack of ability, it's concentration.

Reading the QPR fans views on him it seems that's why he didn't start games there.

There's a tendency with Boro fans to overreact and be over-critical with keepers and Lumley is the same.

I see some people blaming him for the back 3 not having a good game yesterday - which is nonsense.

And he's been blamed more than Dijksteel for the 3rd goal, which only came about because the of the formers mistake.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's the standard we need to be at, just that he's not as wholly bad as many people claim.

Just stop it Jonny you are making yourself look daft.

Wasnt Steele a target for the boo boys towards the end?

Or was his sending off at Leeds then the loan signing of Given the end of his time at Boro?

I don’t remember anyone turning on Steele despite his shortcomings (best steel in our goal) the mackems think he is one of the worst keepers they’ve ever had.

Likewise at the match Lumley is generally given good support despite his performances warranting it

Is his overall game ok though? Because of what I have seen of him he is terrible at claiming anything that comes into his box, shot stopping is average at best, distribution poor. This is reflected in his lack of appearances throughout his career, its not like he is just having a bad season.

Bettinelli played in a good Fulham side, England U21 level and even was in the senior squad at one stage, he was terrible for us but im sure we are seeing worse now

Was Betinelli anywhere near as accident prone as Lumley?

I don’t remember anything like the constant stream of errors we have seen and have now come to expect from Lumley.

He is an absolute liability.

A simple question to ask - can we rely on Lumley to show consistency and eliminate the errors so prevalent in his game?

For me the answer is overwhelmingly NO.Simply not good enough - albeit he seems a nice guy.
