When Cardiff came to Ayresome Park to face the mighty Boro in a 2nd division match

Registered No468 when manager Stan Anderson handed Joe the No9 shirt, he went on to score 22 goals in 5 seasons between 1967-72, playing 118 games, plus 7 as sub

This was Joe Laidlaw only appearence that season, with 4 the following season
1969-70 he established himself as a 1st team regular, missing 20 games over the next 3 seasons till he left the Boro for Carlisle

That shirt with the two blue rings around the collar and the one black one in the middle - that was the best version of our blue and black shirt 👍
 
One of my all time favourite players - he was only at Fratton Park a couple of years - but just like in later years Merson, he had an superb spell of awesomeness there.
Oftimes after the match,we would all agree, when when Joe was on his game,it raised the whole team performance.
 
Joe Laidlaw was my first user name and it was chosen due to him being one of my first Boro favourites. I have great memories of going to watch him play in the 60's and 70's and feel today a part of my childhood has gone.

RIP Joe, my thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.
 
Joe was a regular when I got my first season ticket in 1969 -70 season ... workman like , never flashy, very very consistant , linked up very well with George Smith and Eric Mc Mordie
