Jimmy Greaves admitted to hospital

Absolute giant of a player. So sad he missed out on the 66 final. I think he's been ill for a long time now.
A pity theres not more footage of him. But who could forget that goal where he has his back to goal 40 yards out , turns and runs through the defence.

the highest goalscorer in the history of English top flight football (357 goals)

We all used to try and do a greavsie and go round the keeper.

Awesome player and getting omitted from that final squad devastated him for years to come . Albeit it Ramsay was exonerated I guess when Sir Geoff got the hat trick.

He was a top striker, scored a goal on every debut he made & yes so unlucky to miss out on the 66 world Cup final

Used To enjoy the Saturday footy show Saint and Greavsie . Remember reading Saint saying that it wasn’t scripted and he had no idea what Greavsie was gonna say .

It's hard to pick a favourite goal from that reel. Only one from a free kick (and no pens).

Fingers crossed for the guy. Remarkable durability for a man who has had so many health problems.

Always seemed a really nice guy.

I only saw him on TV at the end of his career at West Ham. He was suffering with an alcohol problem which he did get over, but the legacy of that may have affected his health longer term.

Injured, wasn’t he?

He was a fantastic finisher.

Him and St. John had nothing good to say on their programme about Boro, mind ! ;)

Greavsie was a great player and decent bloke.

I loved the story of when his son in law was knocking his daughter about. Greavsie went round and gave him a bat or two. When questioned about it in Tv he replied he the Greavsie drawl ‘I only did what any other father would have done.’

How could you argue with that. 😀

There was a good programme on BT Sports about Greavsie that is worth a watch.

I have just searched it and it repeated on Sunday at 9pm.
