Jim Davidson

The worst thing about Davidson is he is fully aware of himself. He isn’t suffering from some “lack of enlightenment” and ignorance beyond his control, he’s become a parody of himself, been called out on it for decades, and now doubling down on it without a hint of shame. The male Katie Hopkins, and less funny.

Jim Davidson is a ‘comedian’ who was very popular back in the 70’s and 80’s.
He was on the box seemingly all the time, in his own comedy shows, sit coms and quiz shows.
He would sell out shows at Blackpool, Yarmouth and the like every time he played them.
Times have changed.
So have audiences.

I d know what he is trying to achieve with these podcasts or videos.

He would do well now to drift off into the Spanish or Dubai sunset where so many of his ilk go now to top up their orange tans and die skint......and alone.

Had to look up that sitcom. Do people remember it? It sounds absolute drivel. This is the plot summary.

Jim London is a young lovable rogue who becomes a man of property when a relative dies, leaving him a run-down Victorian property at 17 Railway Terrace in the Elephant and Castle area of south London. He gets into various problems with the police and spends most of his time getting drunk and chasing women.

70’s drivel.
Terry and June
Love thy Neighbour
On the buses.
Carry on films.
It was all they put on in those days.
Like it or lump it.

If you watch anything 70s or 80s it's gonna offend. They simply got away with anything and most of it on prime channels. It happens in 'classics' like Minder and Professionals. It's not just comedy.

I watched only fools and horses on UK Gold demand and got a warning in the synopsis....

"this program was made in a different cultural time and some scenes may offend' or something along those lines.

A warning for Only Fools😕. Then they were in a gay bar and when they realised Del said to Rodney 'if you dance in here you'd best do it with your back to the wall'. I imagine that went out at 2000 on a Sunday night. Imagine that now?

That said I also saw a similar one in the synopsis for the film Aliens on sky movies.... Who's offend? Aliens? Space marines?

'Mind your language'!! That was eye wateringly bad. Every cliche about race in the book on that hideous programme!
That’s a bit harsh it was just light entertainment Of it’s time, I hate the way people look back on old shows with this holier than than thou attitude. As a kid I loved mind your language but I never grew up racist.

to be fair the joke and the fall guy was never the students anyway it was hapless teacher but it was never cruel or malicious.

it was hardly hideous.

by the way it had massive viewing figures in ..... India

You think it was harsh? It made me squirm back then, never mind now! It made not have been intentionally cruel but under the surface it was all about 'look at these daft foreigners'. Everything was over emphasised. The oversexed French woman, the little Indian man who was over polite. Hideous, hideous, hideous...

When it came on in our house at the time it was because nothing else was on and my dad was busy doing something else. He wouldn't allow such sh1te on. We were brought up to respect everyone regardless of skin colour, where they lived, how they spoke - any kind of difference. The old man hated crap like that back in the day and I grew up the same. So if it came on, we were embarrassed to be watching it, even as kids - I'll have been early teens at the time. So yes, I thought it was hideous then.

But it wasn’t though that’s the point as the joke was never on them it was on the white teacher.

It was never racist. In fact it was prob the most inclusive show on tv at the time yes stereotyped for comic effect but all the actors were from the countries they played.

Btw the racist Character in the show was the officious head of the department who never hid her disdain for the foreign students. So in a way it was unlike the other 70s shows at the time as it had a message that an inclusive multi cultural society is a good thing.

as said no one “blacked up” not one actor played a foreign role all the cast were from that nation again unique at the time.

Have to agree to disagree. My wife is from Sri Lanka and she studied in London back when this 'comedy' was shown. She told me she would cry for hours afterwards.

That's enough for me to hate it then and hate it now.

Well said.
