All chose WBA over us.

How’s that working out? Admittedly they’ve off loaded Mowett our way now. But we wanted all of these pre this and last season!
 
All probably offered more money than we could afford (and Reading, Barnsley and Millwall). WBA have parachute payments.
 
Yes I know that… state the obvious, they were offered and wanted the money. The point being we also wanted them and didn’t get them and look how well it’s gone. So it’s not just us that garners underperformers.
 
I would have signed all three and looked a fool - football is still not predictable there is still a bit of alchemy of what works and does not work, especially outside the Premier League. It clicked for us mid season last year and hasn't this season - something goes for you and it increases the step in your sprint and increases self belief and spirit. Of course the opposite can happen.

Sometimes players seem to bring the best of other players and the same to some extent with managers and players.
 
Gayle / Delap and Mcgoldrick all players linked or wanted by many on here.

Hardly working out for any of them. I mean even the linked players have bombed 😂
 
Can add Larsen to the list too, yet to score a goal for Celta vigo, yet club was hammered for not stumping up the cash, hopefully the lad will become a player but its difficult moving to new countries.
 
Would still take Swift now. He's a fabulous player.

Mowatt isn't. He's dreadful.

Wallace has been excellent last few seasons for Millwall, but I get the impression he's a solid Championship player, whereas Swift IMO could make the step to the Premier League.
 
Mowatt isn't dreadful, he's a holding midfeilder who has been played in the wrong position...
Part of our problem, wrong formation, square pegs in round holes... 😕

Ok he's a central midfeilder who prefers to play slightly deeper, we have been playing him left side of a 3 in the Tav role, he doesn't have the pace to play there and has been found out... I would play him along side Howson in a 4231 formation 👍

Long term, we may have dodged a bullet. Those players will now hamstring West Brom for years, like Britt did to us.

Everyone looks at the simple scoring creating facts, but that only tells you about half the game, and in other teams. Having both those players in a team, for me, leaves a team wide open to the counter. Neither will go backwards quickly and defend. Neither fixed West Broms real problem last season, converting chances to goals, and they've added another problem, keeping them out the net
