" Il y a des rencontres qui changent la vie, des rencontres où tu sens juste en posant les yeux qu’il se passe un truc. Ton coeur s’emballe, tu es envahi par une attraction inexplicable,........"

Le niveau de la Championship est très relevé, il faudra s’adapter mais je n’ai pas peur. Et puis, comme on dit, l’Amour est plus fort que tout 🙂

James Léa-Siliki – « Love Actually »

There are life-changing encounters, encounters where you just feel by laying your eyes that something is going on. Your heart is racing, you are invaded by an inexplicable attraction, taken by a feeling that you do not necessarily understand but which seems strangely obvious to you.

It's called love.

The first time I felt this, I must have been 3 or 4 years old, I could hardly run but when I saw my brothers make passes and hit the ball, the attraction was instant, a real love at first sight as they say. And it never changed again, I had fallen in love with football.

Between the games that my father listened to on his little radio that he dragged all over the house and my first steps on the field in Gonesse, love strengthened and the future exploits of my idols (before I took over on the field of course ;)) fed the fire of passion.

Today you will have understood, I am here to talk about love, not just a little love or a holiday flirt, but rather the fire of passion that burns in all those who feed on football on a daily basis.

In eight years at Rennes, I experienced very strong things, on the pitch, in the stands, with the fans, my teammates, my coaches, all the people at the club, neighbors or traders. I finished my training in Brittany and I may come back, love does not die out like that overnight.

Here, I completed my training, I became a professional footballer, I played my first game in Ligue 1, I scored in a derby, I played the Europa League, I played the Champions League, I lifted my first trophy at the Stade de France and above all, I received a lot of love that I always tried to give back to you. For all that, thank you.

I leave with a light heart, because I know that I will continue to feed my passion for football. I just returned from Ivory Coast where I played with my Cameroon team to fly to the mother earth of football: England.

My passion is inordinate for everything related to football (be it simulation games like more tactical stuff like Football Manager) I eat football, I sleep football, I live football. I no longer count the hours dissecting my performances with my brothers Jean Charles and Steve or the endless exchanges to comment on matches with my friends. I have always loved watching English football, fascinated by their passion and fervor.

I will have the chance to discover this from the inside, full stadiums, cities that stop living to devote themselves to football for 90 minutes. Intensity in the stands and intensity on the pitch. I leave to grow, I leave to assert myself, I leave to discover.

Another football, another language, another culture but always the same ambition : that of winning and becoming a better footballer. I will show all my determination to take the club to the Premier League. Because the goal is also there, I want to offer myself the chance, who knows to be able to discover the highest level of British football.

The level of the Championship is very high, it will have to adapt but I am not afraid. And then, as they say, Love is stronger than anything 🙂

Thanks a lot everyone and see you soon,

Love you all,

JLS <3

I thought it was a great article. Passionate and poetically articulated, albeit that may just be how it translated.
No, it was fantastic stuff from JLS. Just having a laugh at the lovely contrast between the midfield philosophers across the channel and your average old school Brit midfielder, who bullies Graeme le Saux for being "gay" because he read the Guardian once 😁
