Jacob Greaves Hull LCH

Is he really the answer to our LCH problem ? £5-7m ?
Watched the highlights v Bradford and he was no where to be seen when Andy Cook scored twice .
Thoughts ?

Agreed I think (like always) it’s a price inflated due in part to our recent transfer out-goings. Make no mistake though Greaves is a very decent CB/LB, but he’s probably only worth around half of what they’re asking.

I get what you mean, and it's definitely something to be concerned about with such a large fee.

But I suppose you could ask the same about our valuation of Fry from watching the Barnsley match, he passed the ball directly to one of their players from within our box under no pressure on Wednesday and put us in a very sticky situation.
But we know from watching him over years that he can pull out absolutely top drawer performances too.

I assume our scouting team have seen similar top drawer performances from Greaves too to offer so much.

didnt we low ball them for maguire and look how that turned out. The fee is what it will be to get him in a boro shirt. Gibbos problem

He isn't the finished article but he is massively rated. He is quick and strong, genetically he's a specimen and you can't teach that. Defending is ok, but with some proper coaching could really come on. In possession he was one of the best CBs in the league last year, which makes him ideal for a Wilder team, add into the equation that he's left footed, english and northern then he really starts to be a great fit for us.

I replayed the leadups and both of those goals several times just now. Greaves #4 was doing his job on both of them and was certainly nowhere near at fault for either. Maybe the “highlights“ came and went to quickly for you.

So he's now cup tied? 😂

Jokes aside.... If you never bought a player who made a mistake then you could never sign anyone. That said I'm not sure he's remotely 'worth' 7mil+

Especially with experience and also contract situation. We seem to be going all out for this 'fabled' left footed CB. I'm presuming he's the only one available.

I'm still not convinced it's the be all and end all. I'd rather have a CB whos a good defender and if he's left footed then 'bonus'.

if he's only worth half of the cost they'd surely be able to replace him easily by doubling their money and save on giving him a new bumper contract to retain him

How did it compare to the Barnsley player waltzing through 'the best centre backs in the Championship' the other night?

Completism is the curse. Do you want to pay a premium for a left footed player* in order to have a fashionable formation, or do you simply get the best c/b your money can buy?

* And because it's so crucial, you'll need another one as cover.

A think he will be a better buy than all of these 7 million pound men

Flint
Saville
Fletcher

Again the fee will be whatever it takes. With a bit of coaching it will be chicken feed dont some of our lot think Fry is worth 15 to 20 mill 😅

Moreso if we dont start getting some deals done and improving the first 11 we will be watching the bottom 6 and not the top 6.

Cant honestly say I’ve seen him enough to give a true opinion. £7m does seem a lot these days for a championship to championship CB but its not our money so I suppose the club will have their valuation. He is only young though so should have some resale value. If Wilder wants him though, go for it.
