JACKLADDER @ THE GREEN ROOM, STOCKTON

THURSDAY6 JULY 2023

The Kids Are Solid Gold bring Jack Ladder to The Green Room in Stockton on Thursday 6th July. A singular character in Australian music, sardonic and sentimental, Jack Ladder brings his towering and tender baritone to bear on tales of beauty, love, hope and redemption. A master of musical narrative, he conjures lyrics that celebrate the absurdity of the human condition in songs that affect listeners in subtle but different ways. This will be a one-off opportunity to see a special performer in one of the region’s most intimate venues in support of his new album Tall Pop Syndrome.

Jack has toured with and worked alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry including Bill Callahan, Angel Olsen, John Cale, Sharon Van Etten, Father John Misty, Weyes Blood, and has recently toured with Alex Cameron and The Killers. The Sydney native made his debut in 2005 with the largely acoustic Not Worth Waiting For, which drew comparisons to Smog and the musical polymath has undergone a number of stylistic changes since then.

For this unique show at The Green Room in Stockton, Jack will be playing a diverse set with influences ranging from Leonard Cohen to Grant Lee Buffalo to Lambchop. Jack’s second album, Love is Gone, was released in 2008 and received critical acclaim earning him a nomination for the Australian Music Prize. However, it was the singer’s seminal 2011 album, Hurtsville, which blended a mix of genres including the unearthly goth of Nick Cave and the lilting electronica of New Order, but retained a dark and brooding quality, characterized by his ever-present deep, haunting vocals and atmospheric instrumentation, and cemented the singer’s credentials.

Jack’s new single, Home Alone, is a synth pop homage his favourite musical stars who are no longer with is and promises to be a real highlight of the show. Special guests on the night will be Ryder The Eagle who promise melancholic and solemn auto-sermons while opening the evening will be Teesside’s own DIY poppers Dressed Like Wolves.

Going to see him a little later on his tour. Quite excited as he's well influenced by Bill Callahan, one of my favourites.
