Love the drama.
It's an emotive, and exaggerated word for describing someone having to stay in a hotel for a fortnight. You knew that though. It's your MO to exaggerate to enforce your point.
1. it's not a fortnight
2. It's by definition incarceration
You think it's an emotive word, not me
In a fairly nice hotelmost would just call it quarantine
It is an emotive word and you know it. unless you're in the habit of exaggerating everything. Which I suspect may be the case.1. it's not a fortnight
2. It's by definition incarceration

Not quite true Alvez, although some (websites) will have you believe differently3 cheers for Jacinda now anyone with a positive test (including a false positive) gets the joy of getting taken to a quarantine facility and incarcerated.
Oh they can also take family members if they want.
It's JUST a bit of quarantine, right guys?
Wait a minute. Are you actually saying it’s authoritarian to tell people they must shut themselves away for 14 days if they have Covid 19? Good - that’s how it should be.I've spelled it out above what I intended to say. It is by definition incarceration because they are doing it without consent being required.
I have no problem with you agreeing with her but at least be frank and understanding of what it is she's doing.
In my opinion it's authoritarian and if you replaced new Zealand with Russia I'm sure plenty would say it was authoritarian and I would too, like I am now.
I agree with a lot you say and those Australian figures show how well the state authorities have done but its a bit tenuous to start comparing 19 deaths with 22. Take the Rosewood situation out of the equation and NZ have only has 11 deaths and all of them were from a care home environment. There is no doubt that NZ's go hard and go early policy restricted the impact in their country.
We almost certainly went too late. We also have a large element of our population who simply don't like being "told what to do and what not to do".
I think Johnson has been poor on a number of occasions throughout this and have not been remotely surprised.
There's not much room left however on the Hindsight Express.
I just get irritated with this Saint Jacinda crap.
Interestingly, the combined population of Western Australia (God's state), South Australia, Queensland is 9.5m; twice the size of New Zealand. Those 3 Australian states have had a combined 19 deaths, less than NZ's 22.
Remote and relatively sparsely populated islands had more chance of dealing with this.
I'm sure NZ will get this under control with the measures taken, but I can't help thinking those measures would be ridiculed by lots in the UK if applied to themselves; just look at the outcry when people are asked to self isolate at home on returning from some countries abroad.

Bu the way Queensland have started to spike upwards in cases as travel restrictions were eased.
Just seen TV pictures of her arriving at her polling station with scones she had baked for the staff. Quite endearing really.
