Jacinda Ardern - Resigns

Ah you’re in the South Island. I used to live in Nelson for a while. According to my Aucklander sister in law there is certainly panic buying going on. There is also a shortage of masks in her vicinity. I have to smile in some ways at this panic. They were getting a bit smug about the Covid zero situation but this South Auckland family have caused some disturbance! Especially as one travelled to Rotorua. Feeling symptoms!
Shows the difference between citizens doesn't it? If I read your post correctly there has been an outcry in NZ because one family has moved around. Thousands, including senior governments advisors, break lockdown here and a lot of the country argue that it's ok.

Not compared to anyone. How many lives have Vietnam saved
I guess you're trying to make a point. Hopefully you'll explain what exactly it is.

I was comparing the Vietnam response to ours. Then I gave you the difference between the amount of deaths we recorded, and the amount of deaths they recorded. You're either happy with that amount of dead Britons or you're not.

I'm not

You told me it wasn’t that hard to quantify lives saved in direct response to me. I wasn’t comparing it to any

the U.K. measures to lockdown saved lives, they could have saved more locking down earlier

laughing also said it was nonsense, so I’d like either one of you to quantify lives saved, from any country...

Funny that you want to argue semantics when the clear point is our country, with it's late and weak lockdown, has had so many more deaths than almost all countries with a stronger lockdown.

Fine, as I said, some people are happy with that many Brits dying, some aren't. It's clear what side you are on.

How many lives have New Zealand saved?
Not sure I understand the question, but I assume how would we quantify how many lives could be saved from locking down 8 days early in the UK?, well if it doubles every 4 days, we would have had a quarter of the deaths we see today, or some 12,000 deaths. Is that what you are asking?

that’s a totally different point to what I was making

I’m not even defending this government

I merely stating it isn’t easy to quantify lives saved. You can’t say.

this government could have saved a lot more lives earlier.

It's pretty easy to do the maths, if new zealand had a similar death per million to us they would have 3,475 extra dead. Their policies have prevented that.
Why are you comparing them to U.K. policies over another countries policies

the demographic of New Zealand is also different therefore the virus would have spread differently to the U.K.

There are of course cultural/demographic/density differences. But it's pretty damned clear that our late and weakly governed policies have led to one us being one of the worst mortality rates in the world, we will almost certainly have THE worst in 3 months. Our policies haven't worked, Swedens haven't worked, Americas haven't worked. New Zealand, Japan, S Korea are in 10 times better positions than us. It's undeniable, I've yet to come across any reason that explains why our rates are so much higher than the rest of Northern Europe with similar population densities, or S Korea with higher. Our response as a government and as individual people has been shockingly poor.

We are still getting more deaths per day in this country than France+Italy+Spain+Portugal+Belguim+Holland+Germany. Significantly more.

i don’t disagree with your point, in fact it’s how I align.

i was more making a point to others that you can’t quantify lives saved as a number

3 cheers for Jacinda now anyone with a positive test (including a false positive) gets the joy of getting taken to a quarantine facility and incarcerated.

Oh they can also take family members if they want.

It's JUST a bit of quarantine, right guys?

Seems like this arguement has met in the middle, but somehow it's still going on.
The equation as to how many deaths might have been prevented by earlier and more decisive action is almost impossible to solve as it has too many variables, what is pretty clear though is that earlier and more decisive action would have saved lives.

Oh and by the way “incarcerated” In a 5 star hotel with sea views possible And the majority of people in NZ support this policy.

You kind of get used to the exaggerations and use of emotive language after a while. In ALvez' defence it's how the tabloid press spread news and even our own government . It's learning to ignore and filter it.
