I didn't know that he had represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games. He was a great player to watch with the ball in his hands.Wales and British and Irish Lions winger has died at the age of 72. A great player and international sprinter as well. Sad loss.
I saw him play his first game of first class rugby. He scored two tries by running straight. No one had seen a 100m sprinter playing rugby at that time. After a few games he learnt to swerve (not really a sidestep) and became international class. Then he learnt to tackle . . . . . !Getting older is never great, but when you see your childhood heroes passing away at ages that appear before their time it really brings home the fragility of life and the importance of looking after yourselves and your loved ones and trying to cherish every moment of every day
R.I.P JJ. God Bless
Don't forget the Pontypool front row. It's funny how the truly great teams in any sport, or great midfields, back fours etc do roll off the tongue, sometimes even when they were a touch before your time. I can name Revie's 70's Leeds team without really ever seeing them. It is the same with that great Welsh back line - Gareth Edwards, Phil Bennett, Gerald Davies, Steve Fenwick, J P R Williams, J J Williams (ok I'm missing one so I'll stick in Mervyn Davies, lol!). Just legendary.
Another sad loss.
Don't forget the Pontypool front row.
