It's interesting that he has a similar view point to what I have and posted on here recently but was shouted down by the usual suspects.

‘Shouted down’

I believe people said you could have the view of Toney whilst also thinking that by taking the knee it’s brought things forward

What do you suggest should be done the highlight and tackle racism within football and the wider society?

Well not taking the knee which is token gesture/ virtue Signaling from those at the top.

It should never have become something that is expected as it just loses its meaning.

Work needs to be carried out to seek out the perpetrators and deal with them robustly.

Taking the knee has done nothing to change it.

If all these celebrities/footballers removed themselves from Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for a period they would soon take action....... without them it would be a boring place for people (and trolls). He is right, no action is being taken and fat men in suits at the top can rest whilst the world thinks something is being done.

When has it become expected? It isn’t mandatory

I guess you were right all along ey!! 🙄

I don't really know what you want Chris? You agree that racism is not acceptable but rail against a visible peaceful gesture that shows a group of people, a whole profession, saying its time for change.

As it happens, I think footballers are being used as puppets and political punching bags now, because its easier than trying to answer their tough questions. I wonder if the taking of the knee would have had more impact and jolted authorities into action if it was done while more fans were more regularly in the stadiums.

If I was a black footballer who had suffered racist abuse from the dregs of society I'd be feeling very let down right now. Not 'oh well, we tried, suppose we're just going to have to shut up and get on with it.'

So what would you like done? Were you against kick it out campaign too as that's not worked?

100%this is what should happen. A mass boycott of the social media comps would sort it out in a day. Backbone needed across the board though. Many pockets lined through players and clubs’ social media presence and we are talking about some of the greediest and manipulative corporations in the world.

As Toney correctly points out the knee is nothing more than puppetry, gesture politics. A convenient simple action favoured by lazy liberal corporations who couldn't give a fig about policies to address social problems e.g. repressive policing in reality.

The all-white board of the BBC are massive fans of this kind of action of course.

Its not expected though, some teams do, some dont. No problems

Taking the knee raised the profile of the issue. It is in danger of becoming the "norm", and is lessening impact as time goes on. It is now just something that happens before a sporting event. Taking the knee was never in itself going to solve the problem, but invites conversations around the issue.

Maybe it is time to to think about what to do next.
