League 1.

Derby and Cheltenham is postponed, because one of the corner flags at Pride Park is on International duty.
Forest Green - high flyers last season, now have ex-Notts County Manager Ian Birchnall in charge, and are struggling at the wrong end of the table. Burton are in a precarious position - bottom of League 1 with just 4 points from 9 games.
4th place Sheffield Wednesday take on Wycombe Wanderers in 16th. Lewis Wing has so far featured in all of Wycombe`s games.
Meanwhile, 10th place Peterborough United have hit a poor run of form - having lost 4 of their last 5 games. Today they face Port Vale at London Road, who last time out beat Shrewsbury 2-1.

League 2:

Top team, Leyton Orient are on the road to second place Barrow. Orient have won all of their last five. Barrow are a solid team who have strengthened in all departments since their promotion from the National League. Northampton in third face Stockport, who are still adapting to life in the league. In spite of being big financial hitters in the National League, they find themselves in 16th place - having won just once in the last 5. Bradford City, have made a steady start to life under Manager Mark Hughes. Having had a major clear-out in the summer, the Bantams have hit a run of form - winning 4 and drawing once in the last 5. Their opponents today - AFC Wimbledon are experiencing a torrid time - having lost the last four games. Today will be a massive test of their defence - who have so far leaked 13 goals. Meanwhile, Harrogate are dropping like a stone. With 8 goals in 9 games, their big issue is scoring. Their only respite from four consecutive defeats was the 0-0 away at Stockport last Saturday. Not long ago, Hartlepool were celebrating promotion from the National League, but, their Managerial CV seems like the remains on a battlefield: Dave Challinor took pools up from the National League in 2021, but left under a cloud in November 2021 for Stockport County. Keith Curle was appointed "Interim" Manager 4 days ago and is the 7th Manager [Including Caretaker Managers] in under 10 months at Victoria Park! Second bottom - 2 points above Rochdale - Pools face Gillingham today. The Poolies have conceded more goals than anyone in the league - 17 in 9! Look out for the 8th Manager anytime soon!

National League:

The top of the table looks very familiar for those who follow the National League. In a league where only two teams get promoted - isnt it time for a straight three-up, three-down into League Two?
Chesterfield missed out last season and Notts County were condemned by a late winner after seeing their hopes ended by eventually promoted Grimsby Town. Wrexham are the big - spenders and "darlings" of the league. In 2021 they paid a reported £100K for Paul Mullin from League Two Cambridge United. Mullin duly delivered on goals, but Wrexham missed out at the "business end" of the season. Notts had an uncharacteristic "blip" last week against Dorking (!) but are well in the chase. Today, The Magpies are taking 1750 fans to 8th place York City (!) It should be an interesting game. Its worth noting that over half the teams in the National League were previously league clubs.

Connor Wickham…wow!
Wrexham’s crowd??? If SG was ever to sell The Mighty Boro, hopefully it will be to Brad Pitt!!

The odd weeks when you don’t post your match day threads is up there with ‘Grandstand’ and ‘World of Sport disappearing off the telly!

Ian Birchnal - signed for Forest Green Rovers from Notts County for his first League Management appointment - alongside his Assistant Michael Doyle.
Rovers have had a wretched start to their season and are now third from bottom after being hammered at home by Exeter City this lunchtime.
