Its 5pm and the Classified Football Results read by James Alexander Gordon ......

I know it’s there mainly for the sake of nostalgia, car radios and lower league scores now but I don’t see the point of a taxpayer-funded national broadcaster if they’re just going to cut beloved things like this, for no reason.

It’s five minutes in the schedule! How much salary are they actually saving for the five minutes it takes the presenter to read them out?!

Utterly ridiculous tinkering. I’m baffled even by the thinking that someone would propose getting rid of final score on a sports radio broadcast, let alone it getting approved. Why? To be honest you’d be better served getting rid of all of the rest of the faff, hyperbole, dreadful phone-ins which are a race to find the biggest idiot and the hours and hours of moronic clickbait punditry, and keeping the scores, they’re the only part you actually need.

It's not about saving money though is it.

It's about saving time as they have a reduced programme length due to live sport. I take it their intention is to cram in as much detailed reporting into the 30 minutes they actually have instead of reading out scores 99% of listeners already know.

My first reaction was against this, but when did I last really listen to them to find out scores? Not in the last 10 years at least. I guess that goes for anyone with a smart phone.

Put nicely. If you listen to the 30 mins they have between 5 and 5.30 you will understand why frustratingly pointless chopping the scores is. They have 5 mins previewing 606, they had an ad for “it’s getting personal” for F1 and a discussion off topic on at least two occasions. The decision to get rid made by a new generation of radio journalists who clearly think everybody has a smart phone and is not interested in anything other than Premier League and WSL and doesn’t need to know the scores anymore. Sad loss.

Good point, I’ll take it further, if they haven’t got time for everything scrap the inane 606!

Agree. 606 serves no purpose but to listen to some bore rattling on about how good Liverpool are or give voice to chronic moaners who talk shyte. It’s past it’s sell by date.
