It’s rarely easy being a Boro fan

If you want "easy" don't bother with football, or indeed any sport.

It's too raw, real and unpredictable to be easy. That's why it's so popular: it puts you through the emotional wringer, and it doesn't always satisfy. That intensifies the rare moments all the more.

If you want easy, stick to the entertainment industry; it's more bland but more reliable.

I always say "Its the low points of being a supporter that make the high points feel so good."

I'd hate to support a club where winning is expected, and when it doesn't happen the world is going to end. Can you imagine what its like being a Chelsea fan or a City fan where going to Wembley isn't a special occasion?! or where winning the carling cup isn't special?

You can't possiby enjoy the highs unless you experience the lows.

A Man U fan once said to me "How do you follow a team like Boro - you never win anything"

He wasn't being funny - it's just what we get used to

There are only around 40,000 of us opposed to 50 million or so MU fans, is one answer.

We are bigger stakeholders or as one famous manager put it we are more "the special ones".

Its one reason many old MU fans now would rather call themselves FC United fans.

Another analogy is we are like climber near the bottom of Everest, MU fans and their like have been dropped close to the top of Everset by helicopter - who feels the most (real) sense of achievement with their climb?

I enjoyed the day out at QPR on Saturday (other than the result). Great walk up to the ground, buzzing full of life from Shepherds Bush Market. A great old ground, great to be so close to the pitch and the weather was beaming. After living in London for the past three years, paying £30 for a ticket and being surrounded by 3000 people from Middlesbrough for 90 minutes rather than loads of southerners is worth every penny regardless of the result (y)
