It’s now official boris is toxic

How marvellous. I think this puts him under more pressure than that which has gone before. It used to be said of him that he could win in areas where Tories couldn't win. With Shropshire and Honiton, he is now proving capable of losing in places where Tories couldn't lose.

I think in some ways the Wakefield result is less eye catching but more significant. The first of those red wall seats to fall. The other thing, and I don't know if it can be replicated at scale, is that despite a formal pact, tactical voting was huge in both by elections.

Here come the resignations

Conservative Party chairman Oliver Dowden has resigned with immediate effect, following the Tories' defeats in yesterday's two by-elections.

He says the party's supporters are "distressed" by recent events and he "shares their feelings".

Dowden says he's quitting because "someone needs to take responsibility".

Here comes one resignation. Absolutely the WRONG one. Dowden is the latest mug to fall on his sword to save Big d*ck.

Someone posted on the thread a little earlier "someone has to take responsibility" - looks like Dowden inadvertently has......😳😳
Interesting to see what spin the main Tory sycophantic fan boy/girls MPs put on this. RMT strike stopped millions of Tories getting to the polling stations?

Is England starting to wake up to the fact Johnson's government is a total mess and always has been? I hope so.

Johnson was never a vote winning machine, or to phase Kuennsburg "best Politician of his era". The 2019 Election was a gimme with a very simple "Get Brexit Done" message. The so called Red Wall voted Tory as people were sick at the bickering and in-fighting in politics following Brexit.

12 years of Tory government has brought Britain to the mess we're all living through right now. 12 years that have seen brutal ideological austerity and the totally unnecessary mess of Brexit. It's unforgivable.

Quite right. The Tories themselves are stupid to think it was Johnson that won them their big majority - it was purely Brexit. Take Brexit away (as Johnson 'Got It Done') and they are less electable with him in charge.

Dowdens "I will, as always, remain loyal to the Conservative Party.
Might now rival Geoffrey Howe's cricket bat speech that brought
Thatcher down. Here it is, it is 18 min long but you can here the gasps as he sticks the knife in and twists it.
Are there going to be any Cabinet ministers sensible enough to come out and start the process of getting rid of this "lying cheating crook"

I know keeping Johnson is the best for the opposition but what state will the country be in by the time of the next election?

Indeed. Now people are starting to see Johnson for what he always has been. A chancer, a man of little detail, someone who wings his way through everything and a person who is out for himself above anyone.

Next English people have to start realising that so called "levelling up" is a total farce and a myth. How can areas of the North that have had £25 billion cut since 2010 be "levelled up" with a couple of billion spread between various areas?

Jess Phillips - "Boris Johnson missed the opportunity for an honourable exit about 6 months ago... levelling up is just a 2 word slogan for like putting a leisure centre in Stoke."

Oh dear, never mind. 148 of his backbenchers voted no confidence in the leader.
We can only imagine what the numbers would be if they had voted on the individual performance of his cabinet members.
So it’s all gone a bit existential. When he goes…they go. You would need a heart of stone not to pish yourself laughing
